Dear Ney, I’m 100% sure you will never read this. But I have to get this off my chest so here goes nothing.
When there were rumors that you were going to leave Barça for PSG this summer, I laughed. Here we go again with the Neymar is going to PSG rumors, I thought. Then the rumors started getting more serious. When it became obvious you were seriously considering leaving Barça, I was shocked and angry. How is it possible that players like Messi, Suaréz & Iniesta have to convince you to stay? At this stage, the rumors started spinning out of control and I thought, just go. If you need to think twice about wearing the Barça jersey, then maybe you don’t belong here.
After 2 weeks, you let us know you have made up your mind. You’re leaving us. I saw it coming, yet deep down I felt a little sad.
After seeing your goodbye message to our club, I burst into tears. I wasn’t sure why I was crying, but I know now. I am actually going to miss you at Barça.
I am going to miss your happiness while playing in the Barça jersey, you falling down after 1 minute into the game, your amazing skills with the ball, your jokes with the other players both on and off the pitch, the N in MSN, Neymessi and your sometimes questionable fashion choices. I could name so many other things, but I don’t want to make this very long.
I look back at these 4 years seeing you grow into the man you are today. I think about all the memories I have made with loved-ones because of you at this club. I’ll never forget them. What I’ll also never forget is your participation in all the titles we have won. The way you always gave it your 100%. (As long as there is 1% chance, we will have 99% faith)
I would have loved nothing more than for you to stay at Barça forever. But I do get where you are coming from and I respect your decision. The only thing I really feel sad about is that my family and I never got to see you play in that Barça jersey at Camp Nou with our own eyes.
I wish you all the best at PSG. But don’t come crawling back to us when we beat you big time in the CL, alright? ;)
Thank you for wearing the Barça jersey. I feel very lucky to have witnessed it. You have left an incredible mark on this club and it will not go unrecognized.
But this chapter has ended. It’s time for a new one.
