G O O D D A Y Wish Good Day Cafe in Orakei could be cloned. Then we won’t have to endure places so cool, they piss ice cubes. And waitstaff so cool they ignore the possibility of serving you. And let’s not think about the disproportionate prices. So lovely to see Dan, Jacqui and crew at Good Day after tennis this morning after 2 months away. After tennis means the excuse to have something rude. The ham & cheese roll fits the bill. No ordinary filled roll this, mind. The bread roll is by The Dusty Apron, crafted by master baker Paul Leaning (ex Amano). Driven to indecision, I had half toasted. The sourdough was rendered just-right crunchy and with the filling, totally lit. After tennis salad of chickpeas with baked egg at Good Day Cafe, Orakei. Chickpeas are my favourite, right back to growing up days when it was a specialty of Indian vendors. They are served in home-made paper cones. Especially at cinemas. It’s the local equivalent to popcorn. The aptly named Good Day is now Top 10 in Metro Top 50 Cafes 2018. Uncle heartily agrees as he has been going to Good Day before or after tennis at the neighbouring Kohimarama Tennis Club. Jacqui suggested I try the Spring Special: Bircher muesli, apple & pear soaked oats with blueberries, bee pollen, macadamia & toasted almond. So I did. It was great.
