In the woodland garden at Goodnestone Park, Kent, Camellia × williamsii 'Jury's Yellow' was covered in flowers. These blooms have an anemone-form with conspicuous yellow petaloids in the centre. This evergreen shrub needs a semi-shaded, sheltered location with a neutral or acidic soil (pH 7 or below) that is humus-rich, moist and free-draining.

The last flowers of the season on Rosa ‘Bathsheba’ (climbing rose, shrub rose) bred by David Austin and released for sale in 2016. This cultivar forms a short, vigorous climber and the flowers have a myrrh fragrance, with hints of honey and tea.

The distinctive Euphorbia characias subsp. wulfenii (Mediterranean spurge) is an erect, evergreen or semi-evergreen sub-shrub. From early spring to early summer there are large, rounded heads of greenish-yellow flowers. The plants will easily self-seed so it can be advisable to remove the flowering stems before seeding occurs but the white sap is toxic so it is vital to wear protection for skin and eyes.

Various Miscanthus cultivars (eulalia, elephant grass, Japanese silver grass) and other species have been used to create an ornamental grass garden at Goodnestone Park, Kent. This grass species produces a display of flowers in late summer and into autumn in a range of shapes and colours.

The last flowers before winter on the Magnolia grandiflora (evergreen magnolia, bull bay, great laurel-leaved magnolia, southern magnolia) still had a wonderful fragrance. After flowering the central seedcase can produce bright red seeds. This plant makes a large, rounded evergreen tree.

In spring the dramatic red buds of Paeonia daurica subsp. mlokosewitschii (Molly the witch, Caucasian peony) turn into soft grey-green foliage . These leaves complement the bowls of cool lemon-yellow flowers that then develop in late spring.
