There was a moment where Jacen wished he hadn’t been in the middle of drinking his caf when Ben spoke because laughing mid-sip was no fun. After setting his mug down and regaining his composure, he looked to his cousin with a grin.
“I’m with you on the food,” he said. “Although, the alternate – if you want the best and most extravagant meals – is to be in a line of work like Tenel Ka. And we all know how much she enjoys that job. Maybe we can find an excuse to go to Hapes and get away from the cafeteria food for a bit…”
Wiping his mouth with one of the scratchy cafeteria napkins, Jacen leaned back in his seat and eyed Ben for a few minutes before speaking again. “Have you been alright?”
“I suppose that’s true,” Ben conceded. Still, that didn’t add to the lack of enthusiasm he was demonstrating while he picked at his food. “Still, I think I could get the hang of being royalty. Having people wait on me? I could hack it, I reckon.”
He was kidding, of course. Tenel Ka’s life seemed like sort of a nightmare, really. Apart from the servants, anyway.
“I think we should take advantage of your visiting Hapes idea, though. I think that we could come up with some sort of an excuse for that, don’t you?”
He took another bold bite, making a face as he chewed and swallowed the food. “This is really terrible. So, I guess the answer to your question is that... yes? I’m mostly fine. Except at meal times.”
