Im 2005 gestarteten Riesenmaschine-Blog gibt es keine eigene Suche, weil ich die Blogsoftware selbst geschrieben habe und mir das zu kompliziert war. Stattdessen habe ich eine auf die Blogbeiträge beschränkte Google-Suchfunktion eingebaut.

Mit dieser Suche kann man aber immer nur einen Teil der Beiträge finden, höchstens die Hälfte, und neuere Beiträge gar nicht. Es dauert Monate, manchmal auch ein ganzes Jahr, bis neue Blogbeiträge von Google gefunden werden. Ich verfolge deshalb mit großem Interesse alle Fortschritte der Erfassung und die Berichterstattung über das, was zu dieser Zeit "Google Dance" heißt: Im Abstand von ein paar Monaten wirde der Google-Index aktualisiert und die Suchergebnisse tauschen deshalb ihre Plätze. Das ist so bemerkenswert, dass es einen eigenen Namen hat. Zum Aufschreibezeitpunkt 2026 rechnet schon lange (also, seit fünfzehn Jahren ungefähr) niemand mehr damit, dass Suchergebnisränge stabil oder auch nur zwischen einer personalisierten Suche und der nächsten vergleichbar sein könnten.

Die Zeit des Hoffens und Wartens auf bessere Googleerfassung der Riesenmaschinebeiträge endet um 2010, vermutlich mit dem "Caffeine"-Update von Google. Zu diesem Zeitpunkt schreibt aber schon fast niemand mehr was in der Riesenmaschine, und es ist mir egal.
