Came across this pair of rabbits attacking this ~3.5' bullsnake on the side of the road (I can only assume they were protecting a nearby den or something, they were very actively choosing to engage with the snake and not running away from it at all)

This did not go well for one of them. After the one was constricted, the second rabbit continued to try and attack the snake for several more minutes, but it did not release. The second rabbit gave up attacking it, but still stood nearby maybe 15' away.

Bullsnake stayed wrapped around the rabbit for quite a while, maybe close to 10 minutes. Eventually it released where it had bitten on and then was in the process of unhinging its jaw, it looked like? Moving it back and forth quite intensely and salivating a bunch, as captured in some of the photos. I could not believe it was gonna try to eat that bunny, it seemed waaay too big even knowing how their mouths can stretch... tbh I was excited to watch how that was possibly gonna work out lol.

I thought the rabbit was definitely dead after being constricted for so long, but when the snake started to unwind off it it BOLTED up and ran off!! I was shocked. Not to anthropomorphisize TOO much, but the bullsnake also potentially seemed shocked.

I wish I had still had my camera poised and ready when it escaped, but I had thought the action was mostly over and had hunkered down to wait until the snake was trying to eat!
