Saw people talking about intersex OCs and I wanted to add mine.
Now I will preface, not EVERY original ancient greco-roman text states this, but SOME do, male gorgons are a rare thing in original text, they don't get menioned much. Female gorgons are the ones who have snakes for hair, according to some regions' unique versions of mythology at the time. I read this while looking into gorgon mythology for my book and had an epiphany.
Male gorgon with snake hair would mean either a) born feminine and transitioned into a man, aka trans man gorgon. Or b) born intersex and, as a result of his variation, ended up with snake hair. So I made my gorgon character and intersex man. The exact combination he's got is left up to the reader, there's zero indication of what's in his pants. It's his snake hair (and literally saying in dialogue he's intersex) that make him visably intersex to the other character in the universe. He was raised a man, identifies as a man, but is visablly intersex because well... theres snakes on bros head. He can't really hide them. They're living beings attached to him.
And he is proud of it, thinks it's cool and unique to be a man gorgon with snake hair and is besties with all his snakes. Even wears a bonnet to bed to keep them warm in winter. And his girlfriend doesn't care at all what's going on in his body. She's just happy to have a cool, loving boyfriend. It is a bonus that all his snakes love her and want to cosy up to her the moment they see her. I did also look into acutal snake anatomy and if they could be intersex (they can!) But ultimately decided to keep it mostly based on human intersex variations given a gorgon body is humanoid in form. And I didn't want to accident come off as conflating animal intersex traits to human ones. Bro just has some snakes on his head, no need to discuss what's in his pants.
So there you go, intersex community. A fun little fact about gorgon mythology and a unique way to make a fantasy intersex character visablly intersex without having to state exactly what's in their pants.
….. do you know what this means to me as a monster high fan????/pos
deuce is an intersex trans man now. Thank you for that headcanon.
Moving on- i love the detail of him wearing a bonnet to take care of his snakes, as an intersex trans dreadhead that’s friggin adorable. This is the cutest and most badass thing I’ve read all day, thank you for this.
