I may be passionate about food and music, but what connects me and inspires me is the trauma-informed approach to design. I've come across this framework while working on my degree project this semester. It is something I've always thought of but never knew how to put into words. Trauma-informed design or TiD is the integration of principles of trauma-informed care that continues to involve in design today. The goal with trauma-informed design is to create physical spaces that promote safety, well-being, and healing for individuals that have been through trauma in their lives, especially those that are in shelters, rehab centers or supportive housing projects. Spaces that are designed with the intent of safety, well-being and healing can include biophilic elements, lots of natural light, warm/calming tones, and privacy with a touch of personalization.
