Book 1 synopsis
Deep in the heart of Vrevell, there is a secret brewing. A malicious undertow hiding behind wealth and prestige.
Rheia DeMaren Evryali is a bard, currently traveling alone rather than among the Storm Viper caravan she was born to. A casual trip to her distant relations in the Southern Jungle leads to a storm of uncovered memories, disturbing dreams, and a well of seething wrath she thought herself incapable of. While seeking to tame this storm, Rheia's path crosses with that of a conspirator, one with a scholar's intellect and a shark's mercy.
As one that has always splashed in the glittering pools of the public's attention, Rheia is alarmed to find herself pulled into the depths of a secret she was never meant to survive. Isolated from any hope of support or salvation, Rheia must find the strength tied to the very core of her soul if she's to have any chance of surfacing as anything more than a wreckage of her former self.
Broken Promises
Actions speak louder than words, some say.
That is not a lie, but one cannot say that it is the truth entirely. A simplified phrasing, an easier way of saying, I hear the words you speak and I will make sure that they are true. Lying and cheating hurt because the words were supposed to mean something when they were said, but then one person decided they did not matter enough. The act of unfaithfulness would not hurt unless one first promised to be faithful. It is how you act relative to your words that matter. The words are what make promises meaningful, the way we act is simply evidence of how much power we think they have, of how much they matter to us.
The breaking of a promise hurts because in that case, the words were not enough to keep them from acting on whatever made them break it. The actions visualize how much we truly care, and that’s why you never trust someone begging for forgiveness when they are caught in a lie. They have already shown where they stand and if they want a pardon, they will have to change how they act, not how they speak. Don’t let them come back based on their pleading, but how they react to rejection. Words are empty promises, actions are what fills them, with what depends.
