The Cure! (Sorry in advance, hahahaha)
I will stick to the 13 studio albums, otherwise this’d get silly. (I lied, it will be silly anyway.)
13. Wild Mood Swings - I <3 all fans who <3 this record but it vexes me. Cut like five tracks and it would be brilliant. “Want” and “Bare” and “Jupiter Crash” are some of the greatest Cure songs ever. I can appreciate the utter nucking futs nature of “The 13th” on a purely intellectual level (and the video is great) but when I hear it, I’m just like “WHY”
12. Three Imaginary Boys - I’d put the Boys Don’t Cry variant higher but generally, while most songs on here are awesome, I don’t have a deep, almost pathological emotional investment in most of them so it lands here.
11. The Cure - fuck nu metal producers bro this could have sounded so much better
10. 4:13 Dream - “Underneath the Stars” is better than 99% of their classics that everyone reveres and people need to wake up to this fact. This album really gets rolling during the first five songs and I adore it, then “The Real Snow White” puts me off for some reason, and some other songs sound a bit half-baked, and wtf is that sound engineering where is the bass
9. The Top - i feel so queasy and i’m not the one on the shrooms brobert chill please, go kiss simon and it’ll be ok again i promise
8. Bloodflowers - it sounds just a bit samey (which is why I understand WMS and appreciate that it would be too easy for this band to make an endless number of mopey sad albums), e.g. “Where the Birds Always Sing” has some of the best lyrics but the music just sits there. (everything from here on out is basically #1)
7. Wish - minus “Wendy Time” it is heavenly perfection to me.
6. The Head On the Door - i don’t have any reasons for not putting this higher, i’m just blindly throwing small integers at albums at this point
5. Seventeen Seconds - this album is a slightly bratty fae dragging me into the dark by my wrists but i’m going willingly anyway, i’m utterly seduced
4. Kiss Me Kiss Me Kiss Me - AHH MY LARGE SON. I don’t like “Fight” but this record is such a fucking trip, there’s nothing they can’t do, they’re invincible, they’re on fire, i’m on fire
3. Faith - I don’t know how but I love this album more with each passing day. It is a thick grey fog and it engulfs me and keeps me safe. Plus “Carnage Visors” (。♥‿♥。)
2. Disintegration - i don’t feel the need to explain
1. Pornography - time was when it was too much for me (and the title track is still… a lot) but right now it’s everything.
