Is your favorite band metal or any other offspring of Rock? you have Black People to thank for this. Black People invented rock and blues and jazz and if it weren’t for them all your favorite post-punk bands wouldn’t exist. 

But when you wear dreadlocks, you are showing with your body you don’t give a shit about Black People. You don’t respect them, you don’t listen to them, and you sure as hell don’t appreciate everything that Black People have done for Goth Culture. What is Goth without the music? Did the music not shape and propel the scene???? 

You may ‘not be racist’, but you are perpetuating appropriation of Black Culture, all the while ERASING AND SILENCING BLACK PEOPLE AND OTHER PEOPLE OF COLOR FROM GOTH CULTURE. 

Dread Locks on white folks are a red flag of an unsafe environment for Black People. You make the scene unsafe for Black People. You make the scene unsafe for Black People to talk about their experiences or feelings, because you don’t care. If you did, you wouldn’t have dreads. 

Dread Locks are cultural appropriation. You have Black People to thank for The Cure, Joy Division, Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds, Bauhaus, David Bowie, The Velvet Underground, and the ‘African Polyrhythmic’ beats that helped define the roots of classic Goth Rock. (wiki that shit) But if you can’t even muster the human decency to respect Black People and their Culture, if you can’t recognize the lack of authenticity that is cultural appropriation (Authenticity, might I remind you being a KEY FACTOR of true Gothic Nature), I don’t think you can call yourself a real Goth.

In fact, you look like a poser.☠ ☠ ☠ 

But you don’t have to be so shitty, my Gothic brethren. You can be better, I know you can. 

Cut your dreads, read a couple articles on intersectionality, and respect Goths of Color if and when they tell you to cut the shit.
