His first charge

So for a reason I don’t remember, I gained a strong desire to see tiny Kratos with baby Deimos, but I’m not sure Ao3 has any of that, and I’m not confident I know the characters enough to write that. But then I got the idea to at least try drawing them together, and here we are

I didn’t know where to find references for a toddler holding a baby, or the pose itself, so I ended up having to cobble it together myself. But it’s good enough. I also didn’t know how to draw a baby swaddled, so I just had to wing it

I do think Kratos looks sufficiently toddler aged though, and I’m proud of that. Especially his tiny little hands. Though I wonder now if he looks a bit too chubby

I wonder if prior versions of the design looked better, at least expression wise. Something about the final one looks a bit off to me

You’ll also see here that I had another colored and shaded version; originally I thought the sketch looked good enough to at least attempt reusing as the lineart, but later I wanted to make proper lineart to clean it up a bit, getting what you see at the top

But overall, it is good, I will allow myself to say that at least. Especially since I didn’t have easy references to work off of

I also came up with a caption as I drew this, as you can see, and which I nearly forgot about as I started writing. It’s meant to be about how Deimos would have been the first person Kratos had to protect and take care of, as his older brother

I like to imagine small Kratos being enamored with Deimos from the beginning, even if he doesn’t really understand why. He is simply enamored by tiny precious creature and feels a need to protect and take care of it

I also still crave small Kratos content. I want to see what he was like when he had no real understanding of the world. Probably still angry, but just seen as a tantrummy toddler. And also how he’d interact with Deimos and come to grips with the concept of responsibility. Though I’m also curious about the short time before Deimos, when it was just Kratos and Callisto. How Callisto interacted with him when the whole Zeus situation was so new and when Kratos was the most vulnerable person around him

Please someone, make fan fiction of these concepts. I must see them. There’s only 12 fics tagged Kratos & Deimos on Ao3, and only 14 tagged Callisto

Don't get me wrong, new Kratos is top notch, but old Kratos will always have a piece of my heart ❤️

1000%, I really do like the Norse games but nothing beats the tradgey of the Greek saga - I'm so glad we're returning to it even if a little bit with remakes and new game. Calliope recognition in 2026 too 🫶 having the framing device being Kratos (old VA! old VA!) telling her a story of he and Deimos in their youth is absolutely a perfect framing device.
