You and Jordan have a complicated relationship. You two went from being just best friends, to friends with benefits. You wanted something more than that but Jordan claimed that he didn’t want a relationship at the moment. You felt frustrated but decided that being his friend and occasionally fucking was still nice (even though you felt stupid). You had to admit that you were a little mad at him though.
Jordan was hosting a get together with his friends. Games, food, music, drinks... the usual. You were in the kitchen scrolling on your phone trying to distract yourself from the irritation you felt. There was some girl you had never seen before laughing and giggling all in his face. She came in with one of his friends. You took a sip from your wine cooler and continued staring at your twitter timeline.
"Hey, why are you over here all by yourself?"
You looked to your left and saw Gary leaning on the counter next to you. "Oh I'm just... a little tired.", you said as you looked back at your phone. "You know I can tell when you're lying to me right?", he said as he moved his head into your line of vision. You and Gary had been friends for a while and you met him through Jordan.
"Wanna go talk about it and get away from the party for a few minutes?", he asked. You nodded and threw away your empty can while Gary grabbed two drinks for the both of you. You two went through the sliding door and sat on the couch on the patio. "So... what's got you all down in the dumps girl?", Gary said. You giggled a little before telling him everything. Gary rolled his eyes at least three times when you mentioned how Jordan had been acting.
"Well for one, I told you not to get wrapped up with him. He's a good guy, yes. But he's light skinned. When have you ever been able to trust a light skinned man?" You laughed at him and his habit of making fun of Jordan's complexion. Every time Jordan did anything, Gary would bring it up. "He's just so confusing. How can he fuck me so good all the time, kiss me, take me out on what I assumed were dates and not want to be my man? Is there something wrong with me?", you said as you turned to him.
"Girl, hell no. Nothing is wrong with you. Shit if it were me, I would've wifed you up a LONG time ago.", he said as he took a sip from his drink. "All the stuff you do for his dumb ass? Yeah, he does NOT deserve you."
You could feel yourself blush. It definitely felt more intense due to the alcohol in your system. You were just a little tipsy and so was he. A cool breeze came through, making you shiver a bit. The dress you were wearing did not cover much. "You cold?", Gary asked as he pulled you closer to him. You leaned your head on his shoulder and embraced his warmth. "You know, you always know what to say. I just need to learn how to listen.", you said.
"Damn right you need to listen to me. Look at what your hard headed ass is dealing with right now?", he said as he flicked your forehead. "Ow! Hey!", you said as you rubbed your head and looked up at him. He looked down and the two of you locked eyes. Before you knew it, you two had locked lips too. It was nice and slow and you could taste alcohol on each other's lips. When you pulled away, you suddenly felt tense. You both sat up and cleared your throats. "Uh... wanna go back inside? It's a little cold.", you asked. "Y-yeah.", he answered as he scratched the back of his head. You two walked back inside and pretended that nothing happened between you two.
Everything and everyone seemed to be carrying on like normal. Gary went and dapped up a few people who had just arrived while you disposed of your drink, deciding not to drink anymore for the night. Your phone vibrated in your hand. Jordan had sent you a text.
"Come upstairs."
Your heart dropped a little. He didn't see did he? It was only a few seconds so he couldn't have seen?
You walked up the stairs to the bedroom you were all too familiar with. You knocked twice before entering. "Jordan?", you called out. “In here!”, he said from the bathroom. You walked into the bathroom and saw him leaning up against the counter, drying his hands with a paper towel. “What’s up?”, you said.
Jordan just stared at you blankly before tossing the paper towel in the trash can and crossing his arms. “So… what’s up with you and Gary?”, he asked. You shifted your weight to one leg and tried to play it cool. “We’re friends. You know that.”, you replied. Jordan scoffed and brushed past you, going back into his bedroom. “Right, right… friends my ass.”, he said bitterly. You rolled your eyes, feeling annoyed with him. He can’t be serious.
“I don’t understand why you even care. We’re not together. You’ve made that very clear.”
“I don’t give a- so you think it’s cool to go behind my back and kiss my friend at my party? At MY HOUSE?”
“Jordan it didn’t mean anything and even if it did, you have no right to be upset. I saw you with that girl earlier.”
“So you did it to get back at me?”
“No! I was just venting to him and it just kinda happened.”
“Venting about what? How about you tell me what’s wrong?”
“I ALREADY TOLD YOU WHAT’S WRONG. I’M SICK OF YOU, THIS LITTLE GAME YOU’RE PLAYING, AND THIS ‘I DON’T WANT YOU BUT NOBODY ELSE CAN HAVE YOU’ MENTALITY. I’M NOT YOUR TOY JORDAN.”
Jordan was taken aback by the volume of your voice. The music downstairs was loud so he was sure that nobody could hear you. “I’m not playing a game. I just don’t want anything too serious right now. Is that a crime?” You were over it. You guys already had this talk. He made it perfectly clear that he doesn’t want you the way you want him. You felt like there was no point in arguing with him.
“You know what, I’m wasting my time. You’ve made it known that you don’t care about my feelings. Gary was right. You don’t deserve me. Maybe he does though.”, you said as you wiped your face. You turned away and attempted to walk out of the room. Jordan grabbed your arm and spun you around. “Stop saying I don’t care about you. I do care about you and you know that.”
“No you don’t. Because if you did you would’ve never wasted my time and made me believe that you loved me in the slightest.”
You walked out of the room and made your way back downstairs. Gary was at the bottom of the stairs sipping from a red solo cup. He heard everything. You quickly wiped your tears and tried to pretend you weren't crying but of course, it was too late. He opened one of his arms and brought you into a warm embrace.
"You wanna get out of here?", he asked. You nodded into his chest. Gary removed his jacket and put it around your shoulders. As you made your way to the door and grabbed your things, Gary could feel eyes burning into the back of his head. He turned around and saw Jordan at the top of the stairs with his hands in his pockets, staring down at him. Gary could tell he was pissed at him.
Gary looked away and made his way to the door where you were waiting. The two of you walked out to Gary's car, got in, and pulled off. "He's gonna be so mad at us.", you whispered. "We'll deal with him tomorrow. Right now, let's focus on you. You can spend the night at my place if you don't wanna be alone.", he said. You nodded your head as you wiped your tears that continued to fall silently.
Gary stopped by your place so you could grab your necessities before heading to his own place. You had a small snack and showered. You were setting up an area on his couch when he came down. "What are you doing?", he asked. You looked at him confused as you laid the blanket down. "Oh uh... I'm about to get some sleep. Or try to.", you said.
Gary shook his head. "You can come sleep upstairs with me. I have a couch in my room. I don't want you to be all alone down here with everything that's on your mind.", he said. He smiled warmly and it mad you feel good. You felt glad that someone cared about how you felt for once. You grabbed your blanket, pillow, phone, and charger and made your way up to Gary's room.
YouTube was displayed on his tv as it played slow R&B jams, which he called his "lullabies". You set up your area on his couch and laid down. Gary got into his own bed and laid down. He aimlessly scrolled through his phone while you laid there staring at the ceiling. Your tears began to fall as memories played over and over again. You just couldn't help but feel hurt and heartbroken by what happened earlier.
You were snapped out of your daze when you felt yourself being lifted from the couch. Gary had taken you into his arms and put you in bed with him. You laid your head on his chest, listening to his heartbeat to soothe you. "Thank you.", you mumbled. "No problem girl. I'm willing to do whatever helps you feel better." He placed a kiss on your forehead and then closed his own eyes and went to sleep. You were thankful to have Gary at a time like this. He does everything you wished Jordan would do.
Meanwhile back at Jordan's house, he was sitting in silence fuming. He sent everyone home right after you and Gary left. He showered and got in bed, thinking about the events of the night. Jordan took out his phone and planned to text you an apology. However, he saw your location under your contact name. "What the fuck?", he said as he sat up. He began to type rapidly, hoping you'd immediately read his message.
