CSX GP40-2 6232 (July 1 2025)
A Timelapse I made awhile back
Near Effingham
Here are a couple of shots I don't believe I've posted on Tumblr: both taken on the Illinois Central main line near Effingham, Illinois.
The first shot shows a northbound train with an SD40A on point. This unit was a variation on the SD40 that only the IC owned—kind of a precursor to the SD40-2, at least by spotting details if not electrical components. The location here is north of Effingham, half way to Sigel, with Buening Equipment in the background.
Not sure of the exact locale of the second shot, but I believe in was taken in the same general area as the first image. That's a GP40 on point of what appears to be a local train; the loco is sporting the old black, with green diamond logo, paint scheme.
Two images by Richard Koenig; taken June of 1979.
Bogs of East Sandwich by John Kittredge Via Flickr: MBTA GP40MC 1119 rolls past one of many cranberry bogs that line the tracks in East Sandwich as the train makes its way south toward Hyannis.
POWA at Waterville by Thomas Coulombe Via Flickr: A quick heads up that POWA had the 374 leading this morning, and would be coming through Belgrade around 6:30 was plenty enough to motivate me to delay my much needed sleep to get a few shots in. The veteran high hood GP40 is leading a pair of SD40-2s as they roll past the old site of the Waterville station, long ago torn down, with a lengthy slug of Eimskip containers on the headend.
N&W GP40 1372 by Chuck Zeiler Via Flickr: Norfolk & Western Railway GP40 1372 at 18th Street in Chicago, Illinois on an unknown day in May 1979, Kodachrome by Chuck Zeiler. This was a commuter train to Orland Park. The baggage car contained steam generators.
EDNM at the Willows by Wayne Johnson Via Flickr: EDNM rolls off the Fitchburg Route and onto the Stony Brook Division at CPF-WL. This area has changed due to a recently double-tracked Fitchburg mainline and a new interlocking.
