Grace is very self absorbed when she's introduced. She knows that she's beautiful and she enjoys looking at herself a lot.

When traveling with Tuba and Hazel, we don't see her check her mirror as much. In fact, I can't recall her taking another look at herself until her newly found denizen friend lands on her shoulder and she can see her reflection.

This is her first time looking at herself again not only since earlier, before she began changing for the better, but since she looked at the things she didn't like to see as much, in her memories.

And this time, she's looking at herself through new eyes. She looks at her symbol, and she wipes it off and I can't help but to think about the denizen blood she's got on her hands as she's staring at the red on her fingers and just ahead, multiple crushed denizens that she knows once upon a time she wouldn't have cared about.

She's still beautiful, but she's not only seeing the world differently, but also herself. Because her next steps aren't just to remove the rest of the symbol of hate from her face, but to help as many of the origami birds as she sees. I'm just... So proud of her every time I think about her. She might not have made it without that shift of views and taking actions to back up her new way of seeing.

And the kids are so genuinely happy that she made it. This is probably their first time really seeing denizens be the opposite of what they've been led to believe. 🥺

These scenes were each just a few seconds, but these three scenes, by the time we got to the last of these really affected me.

As someone who doesn't trust easily NOR sleep easily, I've always liked to see people I care about sleep and I've always liked the aesthetic of people who care about each other sleeping.

And these short moments say so much about the dynamics of the characters shown and their trust and comfort with each other.

1. Grace and Simon are deep into their sleep and very closely together. They're still inseparable at this time. Still on one accord.

2. Grace is asleep with Hazel actually touching her. She's comfortable in taking care of this child and having her cradled closely. Meanwhile, not only did Simon not sleep nearby, but we know he wasn't even there and can assume didn't actually sleep at all that night because he went on a little journey.

3. Everyone is disconnected and spaced out and Hazel is not only alone, but hiding inside of her shell. None of these people at the moment feel like they have anybody. They're not close. They're not touching. They're all sleeping, but there's no connection.

It was sad to me. The regression.

I hate people who age up Grace Monroe, even though her and Simon are the same age. Fuck them, they mama, and they kids and future kids. Bitches never just let little Black girls be that. "She's clearly older" Fuck y'all.

Me at literally every and anybody that suggests that Grace is the reason or blame for Simon's issues.

ANYWAY, I strongly disagree with the notion that the Apex is filled with kids because Grace and Simon target them because they're easier to manipulate. Nothing we've seen has in any way shown that they don't care about humans, so them surrounding themselves with this child army out of a place of purposeful harm don't sit right with me.

Maybe it's because I've already been a child, have helped raised kids and work with them now as a full grown adult, I'm just not seeing the shadiness that people have put on these two characters.

I don't see where they've lied or manipulated anyone. The things that they are saying are incorrect. Being incorrect is not the same thing as manipulation. A manipulator knows what they're saying isn't true and they use it on purpose against others. We've got nothing from canon to support that at all.

The reason that not only the Apex, but the train itself has so many kids is more than likely because kids have more trouble processing trauma than adults do, and they have less responsibilities in the world. An adult on the train is going to want to do everything to get off of it. They won't necessarily want to unpack their issues, but if that's what it'll take to get back to work before they lose their job, or get back to their kids, or cat, of just the life they've built in 20something years or more - they aren't sticking around with a bunch of kids whose policy is just to pillage and destroy. Kids? As long as they're comfortable and needs are met will stay just about anywhere. They aren't as set on their ways or rationalize what staying here may mean for the outside world.

It's not that they're easier to control so much as they are the ones who would not be diligently seeking escape from this place. Grace and Simon may be a little older, but they certainly don't come across to me as mature adults, so I'm not sure why they keep being suspected of trying to hold the kids back or manipulate them. I think that they care about them and feel that this lifestyle is best for them all. And unless the show shows me something concretely against that, that's what I'm getting from those characters.

as a Grace stan i just... when people try saying Simon was just doing as Grace taught him or she was the leader so it wasnt bad?? like they were 10 trying to figure this out and the fear is her realizing he is slipping after he kills Tuba despite her order... like when she snaps at Hazel in front of him she had just tried to keep Simon from attacking Amelia in a rage and was trying desperately to avoid another outburst... i just wanted to say this another Grace lover she deserves better

I. Am. DELIGHTED that my space feels like a Grace love space! Because it indeed is exactly that.

I think people really don't think about how much real life Black girls deal with being demonized and made to be older than they are - treated and expected to be held to higher standards than their white counterparts, male counterparts, and sometimes, even non-Black children older than themselves. It's a classic example misogynoir that Grace was judged before we ever even knew the story as the one who led Simon down this path.

And it's an aggressive example that EVEN AFTER it was revealed that wasn't the case, many fans have held firm to this headcanon and used it as a defense of the things Simon did to her. Not to mention the fact that his trauma is seen as valid and the trauma he put her through is widely ignored.

I have love in my heart for Grace, the fictional characters,and real life Black girls that are labeled villains with minimal prompting, meanwhile the villains that target them get the benefit of the doubt.

Can you imagine being so basic you see this boy kick this girl the way he did (after everything else) and STILL walk away wishing he had never met her and ruined his chances to be better? HAAAAA. The dustiness of them.

Why is it so common for everyone to presume that Grace taught Simon the philosophy of nulls?

Y'all are gonna have to have a conversation with yourselves about why it's fanon for the Black girl to have guided Simon into the lifestyle he's in, instead of them establishing this group together and her becoming the leader. Because there's been zero indication that Simon was some helpless innocent boy who the big bad Black girl (who seems to be the same age as him, but apparently in every fandom, Black girl's gotta be calculated and manipulative to their peers and friends).

Why does every time someone breaks down their dynamic, Simon has no spine and no accountability or gets explained as having been taught by Grace to hate nulls?

That motherfucker hates nulls just fine with his own brain, equipped to be a fucking GENERAL of the Apex. The General organizes and exacts action. The General isn't just the leader's bitch boy, so the idea that everything Simon does is because Grace got him there... That is SO EXHAUSTING of y'all. Look inward.

This entire Grace is worse attitude by this fandom is sickening and irritating. Y'all created that outlook before we knew anything about these characters and basically, it's so fucking annoying and racist of y'all.

Grace and Simon are a team. He looks to her for guidance and she leads in what she thinks is the best decision. She also has a practice of wheeling if you don't like something. She doesn't care one way or the other. She's a villain and her behavior has shown that, because she doesn't even have bad blood with denizens. She just don't gaf about them. But y'all finna lie in my Black ass face that having no prior actual contention with denizens that she TAUGHT Simon, who legit has trauma from them to hate them and work against them?

If y'all don't sit y'all pink peen worshipping asses down with that bullshit...
