FULL DISCLOSURE: I didn't hate this book. As a book. But I cannot cannot CANNOT recognize it as canon.

However, on first read, I have A LOT of problems with it. I understand that the overall theme was supposed to be around propaganda, I get it. And yet I don't think that's an acceptable excuse to basically retcon the original text in the original trilogy.

Unless I'm having a mandela effect, doesn't CF state that Maysilee is wearing her pin during the reaping and throughout the games? Did I imagine that? Couldn't have.

Didn't Chaff win his Games before Haymitch? I'm surprised there was no callout to him. If we get a callout to Effie, we should have gotten one for Chaff. I could have sworn he won the 45-48th HG, and now apparently Wiress is confirmed for the 49th (go bby go!).

I don't care that Effie is older than Haymitch. I actually like that she's there since the beginning. I dislike that it doesn't seem to really make sense, but I'm gonna have to dig into why, because I'm pretty sure this is just me talking.

I feel like SC painstakingly tearing down Haysilee and Hayffie was just...unnecessary? I think it would have been better to leave it ambiguous for both? It felt targeted.

Overall, I think the fanfic around Hay-hay's Games is better, I don't like what SC did with it, I don't like that it was so short, and I don't like what the epilogue gave us. That said, I promise I did enjoy it as a separate read, I'm just hella critical about it.

And through it all: I shipped and wrote for Hayffie in 2012 with basically nothing, and I'll continue to do so.

friendly reminder that public bookmarks on ao3 are... public. meaning other readers and the writer can see what you write on the bookmarks of their stories.

i found one of my fave comments for one of my fave stories in bookmarks, but also found a scathing criticism of that work that i can deal with just fine, but lots of people who are sensitive to criticism wouldn’t have taken it well, been discouraged from writing, or worse.

you don’t have to like everything you read. but if you don’t like something, x out and move on. leaving a nasty comment or leaving a shitty review in your public bookmarks doesn’t serve anybody. by all means, wax poetic about how awful my writing is or how you hate the characterization or the plot or whatever it is that you don’t like, but do it in a private convo (like the rest of us hah) or in a PRIVATE bookmark.

fandom should be fun... let’s keep it that way, for writers and readers and artists and everybody <3

Aight fam its half past 2 am and Im Mad abt smth.

Imma just direct copy-paste a rant (accidental rant) i sent to my friends about this topic. There have been other posts made about this but they get like no traction

"Its startling how often the starkid fandom sleeps on the black and POC members of team starkid (and brosenthal as well). Like... Britney? Nobody could have done Bellatrix better, and her riffs are something I would die for. Tiffany was adorable as tiblyn, who is herself an overlooked character. Lauren Walker was fucking HILARIOUS as Molag! Her delivery of the (repeated) line "you privileged fucks" has me giggling every time! Corey is one of the oldest members of starkid, and has been playing roles since their second show (Me And My Dick), but its only been since he played bill that he has gotten any real recognition for his brilliant comedic delivery ("Hey! What happened to the pizza? Did it fall through the HOLE?!") and amazing vocals! And James, while being one of the newer members, gets next to no credit for his brilliant choreography (AVPS, Twisted, TGWDLM, and Black Friday), though that can be more dismissed as the classic "if it happens offstage the audience Does Not Acknowledge", but him being dismissed after black friday and not talked about or having people call call him a gay icon (even though the same people said "Robert Manion said gay rights" after he performed the choreo JAMES CREATED) for his flawless dead drop in wiggle like BITCH he killed it.

Brian Rosenthal is less over looked but is still criminally so even in his fan community, the Tin Can Bros fandom! And Corey Lubowich, the producer and scenic designer for a lot of starkid and TCB's shows! Like, they're a founding members of TCB but all I ever see over there is joey! Like tf????? Sure, sleep on the jewish and asian members. Mhm."

I just got frustrated and went off. I'm tired of their songs and performances being overlooked in favour of the other (notably whiter) members of team starkid and TCB.

And the sad part is that a lot of the people that are repeatedly overlooking or dismissing these talented techs, choreographers, and performers are people who tout themselves as supporting black and poc theater persons. Walk the talk guys, and stop sleeping on these brilliant folks.

That all said, let me know if there are starkids I have missed!!! Tell me about them!!! Because if they're not here its because I have seen no content of them at all. And i would love to!

EDIT: I did not include Lauren Lopez in the original list because 1) I was informed by an anon that she is latina and jewish, a fact i did not know before, and 2) i think we can all agree she is most definitely not overlooked as a starkid, like she's one of if not the most popular member. Thanks again anon for letting me know! Its important that we let each other know kindly rather than hollering at people for being ignorant, whether its intentional or not, and mr/ms/mx anon did that well!

I know I've said something similar to this already, but I feel like anyone and everyone, regardless of religion or none at all, would benefit from reading/watching Good Omens, because a main part of it, particularly in the show, deals with the complexity of humans and how people are always somewhere on the spectrum of good and evil (which can be subjective terms depending on the person). It's also about letting yourself enjoy life and the things that make you happy, loving the ones you love, taking charge of your own destiny, why it's okay to ask questions, not to mention it's really just a good book/show in general. 6000/4004, would recommend.

I really love Good Omens ok it's just nice and lovely and I could can and will talk about it all day, it's just amazing and I just hhhhhhhhrrrnnnggggh it's the bestttttt

I have a really good story idea but it’s not fanfiction and idk if it would be any good bc in the past i’ve tried to write a story that’s not fanfiction on wattpad but it wasn’t that good
