OC Monologues - Grace Salvatore, drowning

Drowning hurt. That much, Grace had known from the start—she had merely underestimated how much it would hurt. She had assumed it would be peaceful under the water—gentle, calm, cool—soothing. But, oh, how it burned. The lady in her was quite ready to apologize to the lake for upsetting its water with her thrashing—had she invoked its ire? Had she hurt the lake and now it was hurting her back? But the girl in her—the girl wanted to live. Grace kicked and punched, digging her nails into the arm that held her down as fiercely as she possibly could—to no avail.

He was stronger than her. He had always been stronger than her—her protector, her brother, her murderer, her maker. His arms had once held her. Now, they held her down. Hands that had ruffled her hair were now tangled in it, pushing her head down, ripping out strands as she fought him. Grace felt betrayed as she lay dying under the surface.

Had he meant it as comfort, to hold her while her body slowly gave up? She had always loved water—the cool, sometimes freezing cold thing that now burned like fire. Did fire even hurt the same? If she died in fire, would she burn? Or would the flames feel soothing in the end? And what of the air and the earth? What of knives and fists and hands around her neck—how had he chosen her fate?

Why did it have to end this way? What have I done to deserve such violence? To disappear without a sound? Perhaps, Grace had always been destined to die in silence—not of her own volition, but because her screams had been taken from her. Come. Come to me. I'll help you. Don't scream. Hold on to me, I will keep you safe. Drink. Drink and be like me. Don't scream. I'm sorry.

Perhaps, her brother had chosen her end because he had been there in the beginning.

He had told her of her first birth once. How her mother had almost died—and for what? Oh, what a disappointment she had been to her father, to be born a girl. This time would be different. This time, she would be born like him—a monster. Only, his monster had been made of fists and flesh and alcohol and screaming. Her monster would be silent. All teeth and blood.

Will I make you proud, father? Will I finally be worthy of the Salvatore name, now that I am like you?

Oh, please don't let it be much longer, it hurts. How much longer could she hold her breath? How much longer until her heart gave out from the struggle? I want to live I want to live I want to live I want to live I want—why? It would be easier not to. She could just give in, let the water take her. It was peaceful—kind. Kinder than any fate a pretty girl could ever meet. Corpses could not be owned by men. But—what of pretty girls?

I will be a pretty corpse. The men—they will still want me. Damon, I beg you—if you ever loved me, leave me here. Let the water take me.

he keeps moving around and about 10 years before the series he literally goes on the move by taking a nursing position on a cruise ship

captain don johnson knows and keeps his secret

in the show, immortals can sense each other and sense pre-immortals

Avery is definitely a pre-immortal so we can keep the pregnancy “scare” storyline (immortals can’t have kids even if they haven’t died yet)

dr max is a young immortal (he didn’t survive covid)…he doesn’t really know yet what’s going on

and now Tristan’s stuck being Max’s teacher while everything else is going on more or less the same as the show

Janna I was thinking of you because I did a whole peraltiago rewatch and I love them so much. Jake is a goof who is so soft for Ames and Amy is so uptight and serious but she can't help but grin ear to ear when she's with Jake

Omg they really are perfect for each other!!!! I love the growth in their relationship! And how it’s rooted in friendship and partnership! I remember bursting into tears during their wedding when Jake started crying after her “your butt is the b0mb” joke haha and their proposal!! They are just so sweet. They compliment each other so well - Jake makes her laugh, she makes him grow up a little bit, perfection!!!
