WIP Wednesday

Because Robby's his oldest friend, he doesn't feel bad cornering him to try to get some answers. After all, he is the man's elder and he did save his life once. Robby owes him and he never feels bad about collecting.

Tristan barely checks to see if they're alone before asking, "Did you know that the new doctor is an immortal?" No preamble. It wastes time and what's the point—you reach a certain age and you don't worry about pleasantries.

"Hello, to you too, Tristan. Did you have a good off season? I did…it was great to spend some time with my daughter?"

"Cut the crap, Robby—the new doctor's an immortal. And somehow he doesn't seem to know. Did you?"

Massey lets out a long sigh and Tristan feels like that's a bad sign—like he knew something but was holding it in. The next sentences don't help alleviate that sinking feeling. "No, but there were rumors. When I looked into him, some people were insisting that he died—but then he just got better."

"Of what? How did he die? When?" Tristan thinks he can be excused a few hysterics at this point. He built his life in a very specific way. It served him for more than 400 years and now it could be unraveling—excuse him for being a little overly dramatic.

"That's why I couldn't be sure. He had COVID really early in the pandemic—everything was crazy, no one really knew what was going on, so he died…or maybe he didn't." Massey shrugs like it's no big deal and maybe for a man who's known about immortals for more than forty years, it might not be a huge deal.

If this is true, if this is even possible, Dr. Max Bankman apparently died four years ago and then just got better. It happens—Tristan knows that better than most. But more than that, somehow, in the last four years, Bankman hasn't run into another immortal. Or maybe he's the world's luckiest man and has only ever run into immortals who are looking to keep to themselves—immortals like Tristan.

Whatever the case, this is a problem.

I’m still thinking about the ody3 Highlander au and it’s this:

middle class Americans don’t die violently at young ages as much as people used to

so they’re together but Avery keeps aging…she’s 60, then she’s 70

they're living together but to their neighbors Avery is Tristan’s grandmother or max’s mother

and no one knows what happens if she dies of old age natural causes

She eventually does meet an unnatural end but now they’re stuck with the dynamic of Tristan looking 30 forever, max looking 45+ and Avery looking 75 (a fit hot 75 but still 75)

i feel insane about this actually? do they tell her? i mean that long together she has to know about them but at what point do the boys tell her that she's one of them? does she have bella swan feelings about her AGING or she chill about it? godddddddd the delicious possibilites OH I LOVE THIS!!!!

this is on the queen album that’s basically the soundtrack to Highlander so we’re going immortals AU for ody3:

Tristan is a 400 year old immortal who was a sailor in his first life and died at sea

Since then he’s been a lawyer a doctor a nurse a farmer…he’s kind of done it all while flying under the radar to avoid combat

he keeps moving around and about 10 years before the series he literally goes on the move by taking a nursing position on a cruise ship

captain don johnson knows and keeps his secret

in the show, immortals can sense each other and sense pre-immortals

Avery is definitely a pre-immortal so we can keep the pregnancy “scare” storyline (immortals can’t have kids even if they haven’t died yet)

dr max is a young immortal (he didn’t survive covid)…he doesn’t really know yet what’s going on

and now Tristan’s stuck being Max’s teacher while everything else is going on more or less the same as the show

odyssey bake week episode where one or a few famous bakers and pastry chefs come aboard and the guests just spend a whole week learning how to bake all sorts of things

cue the regular scheduled drama of people getting into fights because ‘he stole my fucking icing sugar’ ‘how dare you i had it first’ and people getting salmonella or something because let’s face it, not everyone’s cut out for baking.

also! at the end of the week there’s a little showcase where everyone can show off their best creations

and amidst all of this, despite multiple reminders that it is in fact, not, a competition, ody3 start their own thing to see who comes up with the best dessert. this then involves the three of them trying to keep whatever it is they’re making a secret from each other and it’s hilarious because when the last day arrives and they all reveal what they’ve made, it’s three of the exact same thing

(there’s definitely a hidden message behind it. it’s that they’re all meant to be)
