This night, while the shrine slept, Ichimokuren alone sat awake, unable to shake the weight bearing down upon his senses. Slowly, the former god unwrapped the bandages from his head. His skull throbbed, and he swears the pain resonates from what lay beneath them; from the shadows where an eye should have been.
“Ah...this ache is... familiar.”
The dragon at his side groaned softly in concern, its own eye tearing up as if in echo to its master’s, and rested its head upon his lap. Ichimokuren laid a gentle hand upon the beast’s snout to calm it.
“...But this is nothing I cannot handle. Hush, my friend, it will pass. It will pass...”
