Watchers aren't bad, they get that reputation from a small group of rouge watchers who decided to entertain themselves through torturing players.

These rouge watchers are the watchers the were messing with Evo. They hadn't meant to turn Grian into a watcher, instead just taking him and leaving him to die in the void. The other watchers, in a bid to not have Grian die, turned him into a watcher to save him. He spent a few years with them, learning to use his powers and such, before heading off and joining Hermitcraft.

It takes Grian until the end of season 6 to tell the hermits he's a watcher, but after a bit of explaining they take it well. Though Grian can tell they don't really understand to have a watcher on their server, and that it means their under his protection.

Aside from a few pranks, Grian being a watcher isn't really brought up until a party during season 10. The hermits are all mingling and okay, drinking a bit, when some of the rouge watchers appear to try and pull the same thing they did with Evo.

Grian, of course, isn't having this, and before Xisuma or anyone else can even try to do anything Grian's gone into his watcher form. The hermits spend then next ten minutes watching a 14-foot-Grian Beat Down about ten watchers with ease, all of the equally suprised. (Except Pearl, who is cheering Grian on from the front of the group.)

All the hermits spend the next few days piled into Grian's base because his instincts, both avian and watcher, are going haywire.
