"Man, my favourite animal is a penguin, but I haven't seen any real news abou-"
Here's a story of a penguin by the name of Grape who had a wife and kid, but the latter was taken from them to prevent inbreeding and the former left him after a decade, which made him depressed and lonely for over a year. Then, once an anime came by the name of Kemono Friends, they placed cutouts of the penguin characters, one of which (Hululu) made him fall in love with it again, making him stare at the cut out for hours, making be shy around her and even fall to the water. This became news quickly and then the voice actress for Hululu came and met Grape-kun, and they made a drink named after him. He sadly passed away the same year, but was forever immortalized with a cutout with Hululu as her husband and be remembered at the Zoo.
Coining the Humbert Complex
Humbert Complex — falling in love with the imagined version of a thing while rejecting the real and less compelling version often at its detriment in a dehumanizing way to both participants involved, whether it is real or not
Akin to the lolita complex, where as in Lolita, the character of humbert humbert is in love with the imagined version of Dolores he conceptually hallucinations or delusions over the real person who he rejects the humanity and reality of.
This happens because reality is less compelling to him than fiction or because the hypernormalized forms are more compelling in terms of neuron-activation, than reality even though they're very clearly not real.
It can be thought of as isomorphic collapse, where even though a participant may know on some level that what they're seeing isn't real, the neuron activation is so compelling that it doesn't matter.
some examples:
Jewel Beetles in Australia falling in love with bottles
Grape-Kun: a penguin which fell in love with a cutout of an anime girl
