It is hard to say if it’s shyness or stoicness that causes Bethany Josnel Coleman, best known to fans as Nova, to speak in measured tones. A consumate professional, the man - whether intetionally or not - positions himself as a manager’s wet-dream. And an interviewer’s greatest annoyance.
If anyone ever doubted that the ex, Seven Lawless, was the voice of the band off-stage, this interview will dash those against rocks. Nevertheless, where Mr. Coleman was unwilling to share about his personal life (Who knew favorite colors were such highly guarded secrets?), he was more than happy to chatter on about his fans. Perhaps this is why despite the middling-to-fair reception of the general crowd at the @infamous-if BOTB, Nova’s most stalwart Fermatas [credit given to a fan who he refuses to name; ‘She knows who she is and how much I appreciate the name’, he assures with one of the few smiles of the night] have remained by his and the Notation’s side.

Though self-described gym himbro Ori Zhou might have walked into the interview room with an expression a mix between the pikachu and Michael Scott mullet memes, there’s nothing empty-headed or meat-headed about the lead singer of Gains. Forgetful? Apparently. Artless? Sure. But that’s the kind of thing one expects from somene who spends a lot of focusing on the creative process of his art.
You might be scoffing over my calling what some have summarized as a “loser’s anthem” - something that brings a smile of pride to Ori’s face, by the by - and “no better than a pep-rock gym playlist” as art. However, I aim to convince you by the end of this interview. There is good reason none other than Gigi Reign and her equally talented wife have voiced their ardent support for this contender of the @infamous-if BOTB -- and it’s not just because of his dreamy brown eyes. It’s there in the way he translates his fiddly, puppy dog vibes into engergy-boosting bops. It’s there in the unpretentious optimism hidden beneath lyrics of self-depreciation and recklessness. It’s there in the way the worlds been needing just a lil bit of Sunshine Summertime ....
