0381 Santa's Grappling Gun
How did you think he got back *up* the chimney?
I had a DM let me homebrew this for my Gunslinger\Artificer in a DnD campaign, but it was so late game we never really had a chance to it. I almost got to use it to pull a bad guy into the propellers on an airship though!
Grappling Gun
Wondrous Item, rare
“A compact, all-purpose grappling hook is housed in a small 5 inch device that is securely fastened under the user's forearm. The hook and high-tensile cable are made of magically treated metal and will hold fast under the most intense circumstances.”
Grapple Location. Using your action you can target a solid piece of material such as a roof, a wall or a cliff side that is no more than 30 feet away from you. Make a Strength (Athletics) or Dexterity (Acrobatics) check. If the total is greater than 10 for stable surfaces you are pulled to it. For surfaces you can't stand on, such as walls or rafters the DC is 15. You can stay mounted on such surfaces but must pass a DC 10 Strength save at the start of your next turn. The DC increases by 2 for each turn after that. If you fail this save you fall.
Grapple Target or Object. Using your action you can target a creature or object within 30 feet of you, whose size is no bigger than yours. Make a Dexterity check against the targets AC. On hit, they are grappled. If you are proficient with tinker’s tools you can also add your proficiency bonus to the check.
Retract/Pull. You can use your bonus action to attempt to a pull a target or object to you. If a target is grappled it must make a contested Strength (Athletics) check or be pulled 15 feet towards you. Inanimate objects that are not held down fail this automatically. Anything less than 10 lbs or if nothing is grappled is pulled all the way back to you.
