Happy Thanksgiving first of all! :) I was just rereading Orihime's volume poems and I can't stop squealing about how deep and meaningful the poems are. Not only, that but how much it relates to Ulquiorra. I just get so many feels out of it! But the issue I have, is that there is so much ambiguity on Orihime's perspective of Ulquiorra. Would you have any idea on Orihime's thoughts about Ulquiorra in regard to her poems? Thank you and your stories rock btw!

Let’s start with Orihime’s second poem, which is the one that actually relates to Ulquiorra. To me, this poem is about differences. This is Orihime observing the being who has taken her captive and noting all the ways in which they’re different. There’s a sad and distant feeling to it. But the last line sparks a glimmer of hope: therein lies the heart.

You know what this poem reminds me of? Ulquoirra’s parting thoughts in “not be but be.” He spends a page or two talking about how there’s no meaning in what he sees and happiness should be nothingness, blahblahblah, and then he says “there is nothing in you and in me,” and there’s that point of light in the darkness. That tiny pinprick of hope.

Now let’s go back to Orihime’s first poem. This is how Kubo chose to portray Orihime at the beginning of the series. She’s a girl who wants to connect with someone, to unite the eternally separated earth and sky. We all know that she wants to connect with Ichigo. Most of us know that she doesn’t understand him. Her wanting to be the rain - the very thing that brings Ichigo despair - shows that she has a fundamental misunderstanding of him.

Orihime has consistently failed to connect with Ichigo throughout the series. The most recent example: “The Death Save the Strawberry,” the (CANON) light novel where Orihime had to ask Rukia to rescue Ichigo because she could do nothing for him in his sorrow.

But guess who Orihime did connect with? Ulquiorra. Boy, did she connect with Ulquiorra. She changed him so irrevocably that for a moment there, HE became the hero. HE was humanized through his interactions with her, and HE understood the heart at the very end of his life through HER GESTURE.

Orihime united the eternally separated earth and sky. And you know what the saddest part of it all is? She doesn’t even realize it. She keeps reaching for Ichigo, waiting for her moment, when she’s already had her moment. A moment so powerful and beautiful that it was voted one of the most impacting scenes by Bleach fans years ago. Orihime will never know what she did for Ulquiorra and I’m going to go cry until I throw up my Thanksgiving dinner now thank you anon.

*climbs on top of a building and shrieks Orihime’s name into the winter sunset*

So this happened at some point, and I'm still torn between laughing hysterically and sobbing huge tears (of horror and disbelief, mostly). I don't know if any of our tumblr followers are responsible for this, or if it's someone else entirely, but oh man to have a TVTropes page is just. Pretty damn amazing.

At least to me. I told Mom we had a TVTropes page and then tried to explain to her what TVTropes is, and she kept staring at me like I had three heads.

Anyway, thank you for thinking we're interesting enough to give us a page on TVTropes!
