GraveGold worldbuilding- Dawnlands
Main setting. The east coast is partially colonized by paperfolk. A diverse land with many influences from the myriad of native cultures and a failed alien invasion. The east coast and islands have a large population of Sunlands diasporic people, the Maroons. And the west coast has a notable influence from Stormlands immigrants/refugees. Has a lot of exchange/trade with the Moonlands. And some infrequent historical trade with the Sunlands.
The Maroon Federation - came together during the time of the invasion and fought a guerilla war against the paperfolk for decades. Still fighting at the border. Effectively many states and nations under a larger banner to provide mutual aid to one another. And strongly reduce infighting.
Hosstrot- Far south on the east coast, lots of swampland and beaches
Watawo- Lower/mid east coast and islands. Strong rice culture. Use of pigments in ghost repelling.
Garib- the islands south of Hosstrot.
Sunkeep- A bunch of states along the west coast and southwest that used to be an empire. Seperate from the Maroon Federation but valuable trading partners. Has a notable Thunderfolk population and due to that is the hub of train activity. Also known for their impressive time keeping and their sports.
Tula- The capital city-state?/economic hub of the Maroon Federation. Out in the midwest, contains both the desert at one end and verdant mountains on the other and grassland in between. The city itself sits between the Cottonwood River (Arkansas river) and the Arch Mountains (The Ozarks)
The Godless City- Located offshore of the Telos Gulf in Saltpont territory (mostly marshland). A hub of gambling and organized crime. Known and named for its distinct lack of a local god without being a magical deadzone. Has a wolf cult and thriving tourist culture.
Hartlnd- The heartland of the continent. Full of open forest and grassland. Lots of bison herding.
Death’s Valley- A magical deadzone in an inhospitable desert that was once the very bottom of an ancient seabed. There is a single spot of incredibly potent magic water deep underground in one spot known as Death’s Respite (Devil’s Hole).
The False Sea- The desert area surrounding Death’s Valley. Known for its periodic swarms of ghost sealife at night.
Coyote- full folk species
Pot parrot (pot pot chee/carolina parakeet)-poisonous parrot!
Pink pigeon (amimi/passenger pigeon)
Music is everywhere (Jazz, hip hop, rap)
Rainbowriders and the aesthetic of the Wild West (there’s just so many weird-ass monsters out there in the plains, woods, desert, everywhere really the continent has a lot of magical hotspots)
Jack Lanterns (for repelling ghosts)
Jackalope parts (milk is an aphrodisiac)
So much stuff on ghosts, like ghost repelling paint
