Trevor Project and Asexuality
If any of my fellow ace peeps need some validation right now (because I’ve been seeing a lot of ace hate recently and I am Not For It), The Trevor Project recognizes Asexuality (and it’s sub-categories if used as an umbrella term) as natural, human, and 100% real and valid. That’s right--a national organization dedicated to protecting and supporting LTBTQ youth recognizes and validates Asexuality/Ace.
In fact, in response to the FAQ of “People are telling me that something is wrong with me now that I’ve come out as asexual--even worse, some are saying that asexuality doesn’t exist. How can I help them understand me?” (emphasis added) Part of their response reads: “We want you know that being asexual is completely valid and normal, and that you have our full support! It might help to explain to the people in your life that asexuality is a sexual orientation just like being bi, gay, lesbian, pan, or straight--it all comes down to how you are attracted to other people, in what ways”.
I just... found this comforting tonight. Perhaps someone else will too.
