Richard Hatch (1945-2017) played many roles in his long career. I truly believe his portrayal of Tom Zarek will go down in the history books as his greatest performance as an actor. The reason why this character works is because Richard never played him as a villain. He passionately believed that Tom Zarek was persecuted for his political perspectives, a prisoner of society for having vastly different ways of thinking. Love him or hate him, the brilliance of the writing is displayed here in this scene. He makes valid arguments, that make even his political opposition stare at themselves in the mirror.
