Ben was the sort of guy who pretty much expected things to go wrong 100% of the time. He was a klutz, sort of an idiot for someone who tested genius level in mathematics and sciences, and generally, he had some pretty bad luck these days.
That being said, he kind of saw it coming when bad things came his way. What he hadn’t seen coming, was a very heroic-looking Peter Parker - yes, the man he was cloned after - to swoop in and save the day when a gruff looking man behind Ben decided it was clubbing time. Not the fun dancing with all of the lights and enough booze to go around, but the kind where it was definitely a wooden bat aimed right at Ben’s soft, squishy head.
Seeing that Spider-Man was then involved in the mix must have scared said man off, because he was gone before Ben could even hit the ground beneath Peter’s arms, which was sort of cowardly, considering the position he’d just put Ben in. He had a right to be pissed, didn’t he?
He wouldn’t fault Peter, just this one time, for letting the bad guy get away, because Ben had to imagine that if you saved someone’s life, and they literally had your face when you saw them up close, it might be a bit of a shocker.
Staring up into Spider-Man’s pupil-less eyes, no company but the dark streets of New York surrounding them, Ben blurted a panicked, “Would you believe me if I said this is just a coincidence?”
