Geology Rocks: Dravite Tourmaline

Dravite Tourmaline is one of the three major types of Tourmaline, along with Schorl (black) and Elbaite (multi-colored).  Dravite Tourmalines are typically brown, yellow or green, and are rich in magnesium and sodium. Tourmaline is found around the world.  Dravite is one of the main varieties and comes in several colors, most notably yellow, brown and green. Notable deposits for Dravite Tourmaline include Australia, Austria, Brazil, India, Italy, Nepal, Switzerland, Tanzania, and the United States.

Spiritual Meaning:

Dravite is a strong grounding stone. It has a soothing, relaxing, and reassuring effect on your body, as well as on your heart and mind. Dravite Tourmaline gently nurtures self-compassion and healing after trauma. If we have become emotionally numb, Dravite Tourmaline helps us to feel again.

Peridot

Peridot is available in any of my beaded jewelry. My peridot is bright green like the picture.

Peridot is the gemstone quality of mineral olivine.

Peridot was once called Topaz because it came from the island of Topazios (now Zabargad).

Sometime in the 1800s the name was given to the mineral that it’s known as today.

It can only come in one color, green, though that shade can be pale yellow green to a deep olive green. The most valuable color is a mid-dark green with no yellow or brown tones.

It was once believed to glow in the dark and it is the only gem found in meteorites.

In Hawaii, the goddess Pele’s tears are represented by peridot.

Peridot is worn & carried for health & healing. It’s also said to attract love, soothe anger & anxiety, as well as dispel most negative emotions. Romans wore it to help relieve depression.

Apothecary shops used to keep powered peridot on their store shelves, saying it could cure respiratory ailments, insomnia, help those who had excessive bleeding, as well as ended nightmares. What an amazing cure-all (just kidding)!

If you live in British Columbia you have all the right to collect Jade by the rivers or anywhere where the property doesn’t have a claim. Within an hour’s drive from Vancouver along the banks of the Fraser river jade is an abundant stone specimen among many agates, jaspers and various minerals. 

This jade however comes from further north, from the place it’s known from the TV show Jade fewer which was acquired by the pound directly from the quarry. The pendants are designed and set in our shop, cut and polished with lapidary diamond wheels.
