HOUSE OF THE DRAGON | S3E01 "Salt and Sea, Fire and Blood"
"The green men ride on elks, Old Nan used to say. Sometimes they have antlers too."
— A STORM OF SWORDS, BRAN IV
Little art deco illustration of Saul from KJ Charles's Spectred Isle, which is one of my very favorite supernatural/fantasy queer romances. I think about it literally all the time lmao. It's so atmospheric and clever and funny and full of love and mystery and all of the main characters are so darling, especially in the audiobook!!! I was sold on it immediately when like 5 pages in it started talking about spontaneous combustion. idk i could talk about this book forever, every time one of my friends brings it up on discord i experience a category 5 autism event lol
It's set in the 1920s and it feels so art deco to me, like one of those illustrations of the era full of graceful lines and beautiful liminal feeling gardens and forests, so this is partially a redraw/digital collage using an André Édouard Marty illustration which is actually from the 1940s I believe but still felt like the right style. I kept giggling drawing this like ough he's just a little 1920s guy, pleasant as the morning dew, confused, upsetti
Anyway sorry for blorboposting for two paragraphs but you should read this book im normal about it (said while visibly vibrating)
Green Man | 3x1
one thing i do like about house of the dragon is that GoT was too chickenshit to do lady stoneheart, because they thought magic was too hard to comprehend or would drive viewers away or whatever but ryan condal will just be like, "here's a random green man in a shot. no i'm not going to explain it."
[BTP] Aes Sidhe forward scouts, known colloquially by human towns close to the war-border as 'Green Men' for their woolen camouflage and ability to seemingly appear from thin air. They lead the main Sidhe host towards villages to burn and fortresses to plunder.
Green Men!
https://awoiaf.westeros.org/index.php/Green_men
The green men are a sacred order entrusted with the guardianship of the Isle of Faces in the riverlands. Some nursery tales claim they are horned and have dark, green skin. According to Old Nan, the green men ride elks and sometimes have antlers. Most maesters believe their clothes are green and they wear headdresses with horns.
After many years of war between the First Men and the children of the forest, their respective wise men came to the conclusion that the bloodshed had gone on too long. They came together to make peace on the Isle of Faces in the Gods Eye, agreeing to the Pact which would give the First Men all the land except for the deep forests, which would remain under the dominion of the children of the forest. The First Men agreed they would cut down no more trees. So that the gods could bear witness to the historic agreement, all the trees on the island would have a face carved into it and the order of the green men would be created to guard them.
During the Dance of the Dragons, Addam Velaryon was said to have flown his dragon, Seasmoke, to the Isle of Faces and taken counsel with the Green Men.
Idiottober day 3
What do you mean theses men aren’t supposed to be green?
My goal this idiotober is to try and get better at my art and be more confident in posting it ( and trying to actually like it )
Warning is close enough to warning 25 right?
