Hi there, this may seem like a silly question but what exactly constitutes a storm? Does it have to be a thunderstorm or do rain- and snowstorms count as well? I have been seeing posts about witches collecting storm water for spells and I was just curious about how it differed from rainwater. Thank you for your time!

It’s not silly at all! Storm water is generally collected from bigger storms with lightning. Rainwater is collected from any storm without lighting. Uses for rainwater vary depending on what sort of rainstorm it was collected from while storm water packs a punch and is generally used to call up more storms, create chaos, cause emotions to come to the surface, cause rapid change or add power to spells involving these subjects. 

It’s a more chaotic and destructive energy, though it can certainly be used for growth and positive change much like the Death card of the tarot.

I don't remember if you have answered this, but how did Mairon come to have a dog?

Mairon walked between the dual rows of kennels, the sound of barking echoing around the cold cinder block walls, so loud he could hardly hear anything else.  The shelter was full, and eager faces of all shapes and sizes and colors looked out at him as he walked.  They were old and young, big and small, boisterous and reserved, and Mairon looked at each of them in turn.  

He made his way down the aisle, head swiveling back and forth as he considered each of the available dogs.  Many of them were cute, and many seemed eager to meet him, but none were quite right--whatever that meant.  It was, Mairon knew, an objectively ridiculous thought, and yet it was one he could not shake.  He wasn’t sure what the right dog would be, but he had the unshakable feeling that he would know it when he saw it.

Ten minutes of walking, and he had reached the end of the line.  There was only one dog there, in the last kennel on the left.  It was a huge, hulking thing, all shaggy gray fur and bright, unflinching eyes.  It did not come to greet him like the others had; instead, it held back, sitting in the corner of the kennel, watching him.  Mairon crouched down on the other side of the chain link doorway and looked at it, curious.  “Hello, dog,” he said softly.  To his delight, the dog wagged its tail.  

Mairon looked up to the place where other kennels had information, but there was nothing here for this dog.  Frowning, he turned his attention back to the beast, smiling.  “Who are you, I wonder?” he asked softly.  In response, the dog stood up and ambled over to the doorway, just out of fingers’ reach.  Mairon held his hand up against the grating, and the dog sniffed him, wagging its tail again.

“Well, I’ll be damned,” said a voice behind him.  “That dog hasn’t looked at a person since he’s been here.”

“Yeah?” said Mairon, looking up at her.  

“Yeah,” she said, looking down at the dog.  “He’s not a friendly dog, by and large.  He barks at people and snaps at the other dogs.”

“Seems okay to me,” said Mairon.

“You lookin’ to take one home?” she asked.

“That’s the plan,” said Mairon.

“Well,” she said, “not to be pushy, but I’d really suggest looking at some of the other ones we have.”

“Why?”

“That dog,” she said, pausing to collect her thoughts.  “He’s...something.  He’s smart as a whip, but mischievous as hell.  He’s escaped that kennel six times in the last month, and he can get out of a collar in thirty seconds flat.  He’s house-trained in theory, but isn’t above peeing on the floor when he’s mad at you.  He doesn’t respond to a single command, he doesn’t seem to have any concept of obedience or respect, and honestly, he usually growls something vicious when anyone comes near him.”

“You’re really making a convincing case for the poor thing.”

“It’s intentional,” she said.  “He’s not a dog I’d recommend anyone take home.”

“Isn’t that the opposite of what you’re supposed to do here?”

“I want dogs to go to good homes,” she said.  “Homes where they’ll stay forever.  I want their owners to be happy with the dog they choose.  This dog--honestly, he’s not going to make anyone happy.”

“I’ll take him,” Mairon said.

“No, you won’t.”

“Do you take cash?”

“Sir, you don’t want this dog.”

“Yes, I do.”

“He’s a pain in the ass,” she said.  “I’d bet money that he’d bolt the first chance he got.”

“I’ll take that bet,” Mairon said.

She looked at him for a moment.  “Have you had dogs before?”

“No,” Mairon admitted.  “But I’ve always wanted one.  We couldn’t, when I was a kid.”

“This is not a dog for an inexperienced owner.”

“Sounds like you don’t think he’s a dog for any kind of owner.”

“I’m just trying to do what’s best for him.”

“And what’s best for him is a kennel, cooped up all day with someone who doesn’t like him?’

“I didn’t say I--”

“I like this dog,” Mairon said.  “And I think he likes me.  So are you going to let me take him home or not?”

“I mean,” she said, frowning, “if your paperwork goes through, I can’t really tell you no.”

“I already put in an application,” Mairon said.  “It was approved.”

“We have so many other dogs,” she said, making a last-ditch effort.

“I want this one,” Mairon said.

“Why?”

“Because sometimes,” he said, “all you need to thrive is the right circumstance.  I’ve been there, and I think I can be that for him.”

“Fine,” she said, sighing resignedly, “but just so you know, we have a no-fault return policy here.  Just in case you need it.”

“Fair enough,” Mairon said.  

She took a key from her pocket and unlocked the padlock on the cage.  The door swung open, and Mairon stood before the dog, which looked up at him, sizing him up.  “Come on,” Mairon said, patting his thigh.  “Let’s go home.”  To the woman’s surprise, the dog came and sat at Mairon’s side, as though waiting for his next command.  Mairon set off back down the aisle toward the front of the shelter, with the dog keeping pace beside him.

The woman watched him go, shaking her head in disbelief.  “I’ll be damned,” she said again, and went to ring him up.

That begs the question of whether Manwe attempted to visit after the warehouse duel with Fingolfin.

It does, and it’s an interesting question!  He didn’t, but only because word didn’t get around to him before Melkor got out.  It’s probably good that he didn’t, because Melkor was in a hell of a mood.  Manwe did call, though.  It was a thirty-second conversation in which Melkor basically said yes, you pain in the ass, I’m fine please don’t call me again.

Thanks! Damn, Manwe is a really nice guy that he's still willing to help after Melkor keeps brushing him off. Poor Manwe. I gotta say it's pretty rude of Melkor to continually brush him off and then ask for something, but then again look who we're talking about. Then again, this is more or less how I envisioned their relationship in cannon too.

Manwe is genuinely a nice guy most of the time, and honestly, his concern for Melkor is genuine too.  I think he’s cognizant of the fact that Melkor is an asshole but still tries to give him the benefit of the doubt.  And I agree, Melkor is super rude.  But a fundamental thing about Melkor (in FYD, at least) is that he loves to push boundaries and see exactly how far he can get.  He’ll push Manwe until he breaks, like he does with basically everyone else, and then somehow managed to be surprised by the outcome.  His people skills aren’t great, tbh
