A traditional cottage garden perennial, Dianthus barbatus (sweet william) is a short-lived perennial, but is usually grown as a biennial. The flowers come in a range of colours but Dianthus barbatus ‘Temarisou’ ('Green Trick') is a non-flowering form with vibrant green pompom heads which are great as a cut flower or, as here, in a container.
