Osomatsu let out a low groan as he felt the cloth dab at his still tender wounds “Nee...easy” he grumbled. After an encounter was a yacht motor left him cut up and bloodied on the beach, thankfully for him Choro was close by

Cats were one of the few things in this world that made Ichimatsu feel true happiness.

They were innocent. And warm. Unlike other people, they couldn’t judge him, and they often sought him out for attention. Nobody else did that really so when they did it, he felt validated, in some strange way.

Peering down at the bundle of kittens inside of the box made Ichimatsu slowly smile to himself without realizing it. He helped Choromatsu lower the box, smiling disappearing when he looked over at his brother. Then, he nodded, saying, “It’s good that you didn’t leave them. They would have frozen to death...”

Since his loss of memories, Choromatsu had gained the kindness and consideration of Karamatsu and Jyushimatsu. He was used to Choromatsu frequently correcting all of them, but now he seemed more timid. Maybe this change of attitude was a result of his sudden apprehensiveness.

Ichimatsu just had to accept it.

One of the kittens quietly mewed for attention so Ichimatsu leaned his hand in, gently scratching it underneath his chin. It seemed happy at that and other kittens soon flocked him for attention as well. Quietly, he chuckled to himself, slipping into a rare more content mood.

“Can you go get the blankets out of the closet? We’re going to have to get them dry and make a place for them to sleep for the night. That box isn’t comfortable to them.”

39 - Awkward

This feeling was not a foreign one to Ichimatsu.

Awkwardness had always had a way of seeping into his life. From the time he was a young boy to his early adult years, he never really felt comfortable, whether it was around other people or in his own skin. He supposed it was just a part of him, a ghost that was always haunting him.

It was annoying as hell, but what was Ichimatsu to do? He just needed to live with it, and so, he did.

This though, this was a new type of awkwardness: not knowing how to talk to his own brother.

Ichimatsu was a bit of a copycat. He frequently mimicked his brothers and had for years, joining into their antics despite his halfhearted protests against them. This made conversing with them easy because they knew him, to an extent.

This man in front of him though, in the green hoodie, bringing in the litter of kittens in a box, didn’t know him at all. He couldn’t.

Choromatsu lost his memory.

Before the incident and his diagnosed case of amnesia, Ichimatsu already had a difficult time interacting with Choromatsu. Now, it was even worse. A lot worse. On a good day, Ichimatsu could barely care for himself, much less somebody else. He had no choice now though, he had to try to guide Choromatsu the best he could.

How the hell was he supposed to do that?

“You…” Ichimatsu started, then paused to shut the door behind him. He looked at Choromatsu and sighed, shuffling forward and peeking into the box, quietly saying, “Did you find them out on the street?”

Ichimatsu couldn’t be wrong could he? Charles... but there weren’t that many people with a face like his own. Only his brothers. It had to be his older borther it had to be!

“No I’m sure your Choro... I know we didn’t talk a lot cause we’re awkward, but you... you really don’t remember me?”
