Can't believe that it took me nearly two years to just do 10 covers for the books. Will be posting more Goosebumps in the future, along with other stuff.

Welcome to Dead House: I wanted to make the house look alive like Monster House, so I gave it more human characteristics (ie: the people in the windows to form eyes, or the finger-like branches.) Also paid homage to a horror film by styling it after The Amityville Horror house.

The Benson children themselves look a bit depressed, that's because the first book is actually more scarier than the rest of the series, so they're a bit angsty.

Stay Out of the Basement: This one killed a lot of my green markers lol. I tried to make Dr. Brewer as menacing as possible while still showing that he is a father with the photos, There were going to be more plants reaching out, but I decided that the leaves hidden on him would be enough.

Though I have to admit my disappointment with the lighting. It still looks a bit too bright, and not dark enough. That's just my own critique.

Monster Blood: Honestly, pretty mixed about this one. While I'm proud of the bubbling ooze that looks like a skull, which is outlined by one of my colored pens. I'm not proud that everything else is so muted with brown. Almost all of Jacobus' works are vibrant and saturated, so it being dull in colors feels like a disservice to him.

Also, Andy's last name was made up by me, she apparently just doesn't have one. It's inspired by Stephen King. Btw, hope you love banana and strawberry dyed hair, you'll see more of it soon in future batches.

Say Cheese and Die!: One of my favorite books, and of course it gets the best fanart imo. The screaming skeleton form of Greg Banks with red bg in the polaroid, contrasting with the dark background is just super cool, coolest shit I've ever done. Though I might be biased, I really like skeletons. Like Curly.

I actually made concept art for a Say Cheese and Die! graphic novel, which includes drawings of the photos and Spidey! Let me know if you're curious.

The Curse of The Mummy's Tomb: Not much to this one honestly. Just a mummy casually busting down a wall filled with hieroglyphics. Though I will say, I was experimenting with shading with purple and blues like Jacobus. As you can see, didn't stick for long.

This is also the book that I discovered that if the protag doesn't have a last name, then there is an official one either in the Presents novels, the mobile app, comics or other.

Let's Get Invisible!: This was pretty tricky to draw. Drawing someone turning invisible maybe easy in Photoshop or Procreate, but this was traditional art. Sure Jacobus did it with airbrushes, but I all had were pens and markers. But I somehow managed to pull it off, which is insane that I even managed that in the first place.

Night of the Living Dummy: Ah, the infamous Pamela Vorhees book, where the main antagonist isn't the mascot, but instead some other puppet lol. I've seen a lot of fanart of Slappy, but never of Mr. Wood. So I wanted to do justice for Wood while still showcasing Slappy. While I am proud for how it mostly turned out, there are two things that bother me. 1. This is the night sky that is black, the rest are either blue or purple. 2. I forgot to add the lines that make the jaw on Mr. Wood, whoops.

Aside from that, I hope guys like that Misfits poster in the background and Kris's cool hair cut. The green was inspired by the comic adaption not 2015 Jacksepticeye.

The Girl Who Cried Monster: Please forgive me for the small thumbnail, I wasn't using a ruler at the time. The design for Mr. Mortman wasn't much of a challenge. I loosely based it off of the French rendition of the cover and gave him a large leech-like mouth.

In my headcannon, the teeth spin like a garbage disposal, making easy work of the turtles.

Welcome to Camp Nightmare: Another one of my favorites, and I think I did a decent enough job, too. The lighting is perfect, the clouds look alien enough, and you can just barely see the screaming campers inside the tent. I do have one issue though, and that is the size of the monster, Sabre. In the original sketch I did, he was supposed to blend in like a bush, but instead he looks like Sasquatch Sr. Oh well.

While they did give Billy a last name in the Presents books, I had to make up one for Dawn. Just based it off Gwen Stacy lol. Also, hope you enjoy the little bonus pictures down below.

The Ghost Next Door: The original Jacobus art was perfectly vague enough to keep the twist there but not spoil anything. Of course to do the same thing, but with a twist of my own. The "ghost" shadow that you see in the street is the Dark Figure that follows Hannah around or when Danny is near. I wanted it to look like it was constantly on fire, since SPOILERS: someone in the book does die in a fire.

Another headcannon is that the Dark Figure isn't actually a ghost or whatever, but instead the embodiment of Misery.

Say Cheese and Die - Again: Weight gain, part 2

You know, I used to think Greg’s weight gain was slow and constant. But making these posts,  I can only imagine it being step by step, Greg “chubbing up” from time to time in a cartoonish way, you know, like the character suddenly becomes bigger with a “boing” sound. You see what I mean? If you don’t, go look at the weight gain on Kamen no Maid Guy (I’ll make a post about it too).

 So, a new day for Greg, who keeps getting fatter and fatter.

He has to go to school, despite all of his pleas and begging, because his parents said so. Greg doesn’t want to, knowing very well that all of the kids will mock him. 

Since his usual clothes are now too small for him, he has to wear one of his dad’s running suits, and it is still tight . He mentions that he waddles, and again talks of his fat knees (don’t know what’s his obsession with them). Greg is extremely embarrassed, convinced that when cars approach him, people inside must laugh about the “big mound of Jell-O bouncing” that he is. Yes, because he has to walk to school instead of taking a car : he can’t fit anymore in the Honda Civic of his parents. He also mentions that he has to squeeze through the front door of his middle school. 

However, surprisingly, at school nobody mocks him. It’s worse. They just stare at him, without saying anything. They don’t do jokes, but they also don’t speak to him at all. Greg is convinced that the other kids are afraid, since now he looks like “one of the balloons in the Thanksgiving Parade”. Now, an interesting thing to note is the reason why Greg thinks other kids are afraid of him. In the original English text, he mentions that kids must be afraid that he will “fall on them” if they get too close. However, in the French translation, it is written that he thinks people are afraid that he is contagious and that they will catch his sickness if they got too close to him. I also noticed that the French translations changes one or two little things, mostly removing some parts about Greg’s embarrassment about his new weight. The translator probably thought it was too ridiculous or cruel to fat kids. (If you follow my main blog and have read my article about Goosebumps translation, you’ll know that the French translator seems to have a thing for fat people and thus doesn’t like them being put through horrible things).

So, the day is pretty good, everybody leaving Greg in peace, him not doing anything to be noticed… until Mr. Saur’s class. And here we have the best example of verbal child abuse I have seen in a long time. Mr. Saur comments that Greg probably wouldn’t fit in a normal chair, and asks him to stand by the window. Then, he says that Greg is blocking all of the sunlight, and commands him to go to the nurse so that she can explain to him the food groups, because he has “been eating too much of all four”. That is the twisted sense of humor of Mr. Saur. At least the kids in the class don’t laugh, they just look saddened, knowing this is something too grave to be laughed at. And, to go through the nurse’s door, he has to lift his “huge stomach” with both of his hands.

 After school, Greg has to go to a doctor. His dad rented a van, since Greg couldn’t fit in a normal car. His dad helps him squeezing through the door, and Greg ends up occupying all of the backseat, and not being able to put on the seat belt. It is also mentioned that his dad is driving slowly, and Greg insists on the fact that the van must be slowed down because of his weight. (Now, I’m just going to say I sincerely believe Greg is exaggerating a lot in his descriptions. Since he is a really athletic kid, not used to being fat, I’m pretty sure all of that just made him do self-depreciation. Or maybe it’s part of the curse, he sees himself as worse than he actually is? Don’t know. Else it’s a really, really extreme weight gain.)

At the doctor, the scale can’t go high enough to get Greg’s weight, and the stethoscope keeps getting stuck in the folds of flab on Greg’s chest. The doctor is baffled, unable to tell what it is, and decides to analyze blood samples.

 Back at home, Greg calls Shari (who has now lost more and more pounds, making her look even more thinner). He mentions that he needs all his strength to raise his “huge, flabby arm and hold the receiver up to the bulging flesh of [his] face”. And his finger is so fat he keeps hitting two numbers at once. They decide that they will meet at Shari’s house to find how to save themselves.

Greg keeps getting out of breath, and thinks that if he gets even fatter, he’ll probably explode. (In the book, it is a metaphor, but it was used literally in the TV show and some people also interpreted it as literal in the book, Greg’s skin getting so tight that it would rip if he gained more pounds). During his travel to Shari’s house, there are other small interesting mentions, like how an umbrella couldn’t cover his while body or how the folds of flab around his face muffle his voice. At Shari’s house, he gets out of breath from going up the stairs, and he tries to sit carefully on her bed, as to not break it. But it breaks anyway, making Greg worry about how, if he gets bigger, he will be unable to go through doors or  tpget out of his house. He describes his hand as “fat and spongy” with fingers “too fat to cross”, and that his arms and legs are barely strong enough to push his huge body on his feet. Shari doesn’t even want to sit next to him, because she isso skinny and he’s so fat that, if he falls on her, he’ll crush her without a doubt. 

They decide to take a new picture of Greg, thinking that it could possibly reverse the curse (I think they go by the principle that the camera can only inflict one curse at a time, and as result if they put another curse on Greg the first one will disappear). However it doesn’t work. First, the picture shows him still enormously fat (Interestingly, in the French translation it’s mentioned that the picture shows him “even fatter”). And second, there is a really nasty side effect… I’m going to mention it, but it’s not kink fuel. Or it’s a really weird and creepy kink.  His skin becomes scaly, like a reptile skin. Itchy red patches develop all over his body, his skin cracking and flaking off when he scratches, chunks of dry skin falling everywhere. The worst thing is that he is too fat to scratch areas of his body like his back or behind his neck. They also think of maybe ripping up the pictures, but then fear that their body might be ripped into pieces.

Then they get the idea that would save them: turn the negative into a positive and the positive into a negative. Hopefully, Greg’s brother, Terry, works at a photo store. Going there is a real trial for the “elephant” that he is, because he has to catch his breath every few steps. And his brother doesn’t recognize him at first because he has put on four hundred pounds. And he also mentions that, on the picture, he doesn’t look like four hundred pounds anymore, but a ton. His arms are now so fat he can barely raises them to the level of his neck. He mentions that in a few hours, he’ll be unable to walk, because right now all the weight is making his legs hurt. But unfortunately he can’t take a seat, because it would break.

 And the changing of the pictures works. Well not immediately, but the following morning he is back to normal.

 So here you go. That was Say Cheese and Die – Again, for you ladies and gentlemen.

 Now, I just want to express my true surprise at seeing how little of kink-art or kink-fiction this book created. There was one comic book by prisonsuit-rabbitman that was never finished, a drawing by another artist that used that, and I think that’s it.

Seriously, you have all you want here. If you take the story, change the plot a bit and the names but keep the weight gain, you get a weight gain fic like any other one.

Say Cheese and Die - Again: Introduction

So… Here it is, as I promised, a post about “Say Cheese and Die – Again”, the most kinky child book you’ll ever read.

 But first, let’s look at what interesting info we can get from “Say Cheese and Die”, the original book.

The story is about a group of teenage friends finding a haunted/evil/cursed camera, a Polaroid who curses people when it takes picture on them, with the results of the curse being shown on the picture. It’s one of my favorite books, and a concept I love. The curses of the camera are extremely wild: they can cause injuries, make people fall from stairs, cause car accidents, make a person completely disappear, or even cause death (well, it is only suggested in the end, but still). The group is formed of four people, three boys and one girls. Two of them are more prominent in the first book and just background characters in “Again”. Doug, nicknamed Bird by everyone because he looks like one (long skinny legs, thick tuft of brown hair, small birdlike brown eyes and a long nose curving like a beak) (he also apparently doesn’t like much this nickname but got used to it) and Michael, a boy described with short red hair, blue eyes, chubby fingers and a face full of freckles. There is also this interesting mention that “He wasn’t exactly fat, but no one would ever call him skinny”.

The two other characters, that are prominent in both books, are Shari, the only girl, with crimped black hair, and Greg, Greg Banks, our main hero.

Now… Greg is described as blond, and good-looking with flashing gray-green eyes and a wide, friendly smile. He is also described as the “natural athlete” of the group, with big shoulders and muscular arms. He is the one who owns the camera in both books. If I remember well, his original age is not specified in the first book, nor is anybody’s age. It’s only mentioned he is in middle school, and that he has an older brother, Terry, who is working part-time jobs and is a big eater.

 “Say Cheese and Die” is one of the best Goosebumps book, interesting, well written, simple but efficient. It was also one of the first Goosebumps books ever, and all of the first Goosebumps books are known to be good.

However its sequel, “Say Cheese and Die – Again” came in the late part of the series. And the late part of the series is… well, let’s say it was just before the end.

While the first book happened during the holidays, this one is during the school year. We find back our main four character (but two of them are ditched along the way), and they know act like children. I mean… they are children, in a way, but in the first book they were much more mature. Here, they act in a dumb and weird way, to the point that they don’t like middle schoolers but primary schoolers. I think it’s also in this book that Greg is given a fixed age, thirteen. However I’m not sure about that, it is highly plausible that it is just a fan assumption and that his true age is never revealed. Anyway…

To give you the pitch of the book, Greg had to do a school report about what he did last summer, for his English class, which is ruled with an iron fist by really cruel teacher, Mister Saur, that seems to greatly enjoy cruelty against children (and cats). So what does Greg do? He writes everything down about his adventures with the cursed camera. Of course, because that’s the logical thing to do. Of course, his teacher doesn’t believe him, and gives him an F for making up fiction when he asked for a real thing. Greg is absolutely desperate about having a good grade, because apparently, he has to go to his cousins’ house this summer, and if he doesn’t, he will die or something. So he tries to convince Mr. Saur that it was real, without effect.

Greg, angry over this “injustice”, decides then to do the most obvious and safe thing: he will go where they buried/imprisoned the evil camera at the end of the first book, dig the camera, take it back with him at school, and show its powers to Mr. Saur so that he will change his grade.

Yep. He’s really stupid in this book.

I don’t know why the author did such a sudden twist of character. In Say Cheese and Die he was the first one to realize the camera’s evil power, the one who wanted to keep it a secret because he knew that people would think he was crazy if he told them, and he was also the one trying to get rid of it by any mean. And now… he just thinks it will be okay to use it to get a good grade and go to his cousins’ during holidays. An evil camera that nearly killed one of his friends, made another one disappear, and apparently killed someone, maybe even more than one person.

 Anyway…

 Another element that will be referred to in the story: in Say Cheese and Die – Again we are introduced to two new character, bullies. Because of course, every Goosebumps book must have bullies. They are called Brian and Donny, and are best friends, and the biggest boys in all of school apparently. This earned them the nicknames of “Sumo One” and “Sumo Two”, because “they’re both shaped a little like sumo wrestlers”, and they like to torture kids by sitting on them and crushing them like bugs.

Yeah… as you can guess, Say Cheese and Die – Again is not the best book for fat acceptance. But it still has one of the most memorable literary weight gain.
