The plane landed in Columbus, Georgia before the tired soldiers were taken to Fort Benning on a bus. Their Army issued gear was taken back and they were left with their rucksacks and personal items. Greg knew the drill, this would be his third time coming home from deployment. Only this time he had you.
One of the hangars bustled with spouses, children, siblings, fiances, and friends. All waiting for their person. The Georgia sun slanted against the floor as the afternoon wore on. Finally a few different buses roll up and the Rangers are released. Everyone scans for their loved ones.
You anxiously look for Greg, twisting the ring on your left hand nervously. Jay Halstead stood beside you, it was fitting since he was Greg's best friend and you were Greg's fiancée.
"I think I see him!" Jay says to you before in a scene straight from a movie, the crowd parts and you see Greg so you run to him.
"GREG!" You shout, wrapping your arms around him, a huge smile gracing your face.
"Hiya, honey." Greg smiles at you, he had some stubble on his jaw and his hair was a little grown out but he was here. He looked happy, like he wasn't going to relapse. He had been sober for years now. Something he was extremely proud of, he always carried the black NA coin on him. Two or more years of sobriety.
"I brought Jay along. Figured you want to see him." You explain, your left hand resting on his chest.
"I do but first." Greg says before kissing you, his hand resting on the nape of your neck. His lips were chapped and his stubble was itchy but it was all him.
You pull back and glare at him and lightly punch his arm and he gasps.
"What was that for?" Greg asks, somewhat offended by the 180 in your mood.
"For leaving me alone for eighteen months! While engaged!" You add another punch for good measure.
"Well the good news is that I'm off active duty. Going into the reserves so you got me forever and a day." Greg says before adjusting his rucksack and taking your hand.
"We better see Jay before he gets jealous." Greg laughs and that makes you laugh. Greg had to be exhausted but here he was full of energy for the people he loved.
Jay walks over and wraps Mouse in a hug. Greg returns it, letting go of your hand to slap Jay on the back when letting go.
"Good to have you back, man." Jay says and Greg nods in agreement.
"Good to be back." Greg replies before the three of you head to the parking lot where Jay's truck sat.
"You drove from Chicago?" Greg asks, shocked. He figured you two took a plane but instead you road tripped over twelve hours for him.
"Well Jay drove for most of it then we switched off." You admit as Greg puts his stuff in the back of the cab and climbs in the back.
"You hungry? There's probably a diner around here." Jay asks Greg who groans as he sits down on the leather of Jay's truck seats.
"Absolutely." Greg says before buckling up. You climb in the back with him and buckle as well.
Jay types restaurants into his GPS system before picking one that was close and had decent reviews.
"You better be ready for car karaoke." You say to Greg who smirks.
"Born ready, honey." Greg says before Jay laughs and heads out of the parking lot.
"You two are disgustingly cute." Jay fake gags and you laugh.
I needed something sweet and spicy, and what do ya know I've written it. Enjoy my loves <3
You approached the front desk calmly, the desk sergeant looked like she didn’t take well to being yelled at. “Hi, I was wondering if you could help me, Sergeant?” You asked politely.
She didn’t bother looking up. “I might.” Her tone was dry, bored even. She stared at her nails and flipped them over again, nonchalantly.
“Yeah, I’m looking for my husband. I’m told he works here. Gregory Gerwitz. Goes by Mouse. Kinda scrawny looking, pretty blue eyes. Fidgety.” You replied.
The woman took a moment to look at you. You were wearing US Navy fatigues, your hair braided into an elegant bun at the nape of your neck. Your name tag said Gerwitz, and you were carrying a rucksack. “Yeah. He works here. I’ll call him down now.” She offered.
You shook your head. “Please don’t, ma’am. He doesn’t know I’m home and I wanted to surprise him.”
The woman gave you a genuine smile. “Well in that case, I’d be happy to help. Trudy Platt. Desk Sergeant here at the 21st District. Upstairs is intelligence.” She offered you her hand to shake and you shook it. It was warm and calloused. She’d been a cop for a long time.
“Y/N Gerwitz. Lieutenant Commander, United States Navy.” You returned.
Sergeant Platt escorted you up the steps to Intelligence. Greg was stood talking to an older man with short salt and pepper hair. You could tell it was him, your soul knew.
The bull pen was a hub of activity, a cacophony of ringing phones, the clattering of keyboards and occasional shouts of information. The lingering smell of coffee and printer ink permeated the air. Mouse barely registered the noise, too busy explaining how he was planning on bugging an offenders phone remotely, and then he heard it.
A sweet, melodic voice he hadn’t heard without the crackle of a bad internet connection in ten long months. “Gregory.” His name was like a whisper on the wind, the familiarity sending shivers down his spine. He immediately stopped talking and turned around, breath catching in his throat.
“Y/N?” He stammered, not believing what he was seeing, your face was finally clear from blurring and pixelations. You were stood next to Platt, your eyes sparkling with mischief, a bright smile on your face.
“What are you doing here, Bambi?”
You smiled at the nickname. He’d given you it after your second date. You’d gone ice skating and your legs had shaken that much, he couldn’t help but compare you to the character. Greg had also given you the nickname because of the supposed resemblance. Your eyes innocent, features graceful, and you were kind, and gentle. Again, like the character.
You bit your lip, a nervous habit. “Surprise!” You laughed.
Greg stumbled forward, the files in his hand plummeting to the floor with a thud. He didn’t care. The disbelief, turning into pure and utter joy of the highest order. He pulled you into his arms and buried his face in your neck, inhaling the familiar scent of oranges and lilacs. He lifted you off of your feet. “I missed you so damn much.” His voice was thick with emotion.
“Missed you too, bright eyes.” Your voice was as soft as silk against his ear. He had yearned for you like there was no tomorrow. Your absence in the bed a stark reminder of the sacrifices you had both made for the good of your country. Five years married, and more nights apart than together.
As a double board certified trauma and neurology surgeon, you were in high demand in operating theatres across the globe. The deployment you’d just returned home from was only supposed to take five months, instead it had taken double the amount of time. You’d been deployed to a refugee camp that was almost at breaking point. The goal had been to train local medics, but you’d been slammed by challenges. Earthquakes had shaken the region, meaning you’d been pulled into surgery after surgery in order to help the local surgical teams.
Militias had sprung up in the region too, and started attacking convoys loaded with food and medicines. The only reason you were home was because the government was pulling you out.
You were excited to be back though. One of your best friends, Ethan Choi was working at Chicago Med and you were hoping there was a space available.
You and Greg clung to each other. The last time you’d seen him he’d enrolled in the police academy at Jay Halstead’s insistence. Mouse had been assigned to different precincts in order to get a feel for how the Chicago Police department worked, and he’d been out on patrol. He’d enjoyed it for the most part, but he was looking forward to being back in intelligence as their communications specialist.
Security on your deployment had been upped in the last three months, meaning you were back to writing letters the old fashioned way. They were slow to come in, so by the time one arrived, Greg had changed precinct again. You’d finally managed to track him down thanks to the help of a friend who’s wife worked in the Ivory Tower. He’d sent you the text more than forty minutes after you’d landed at O’Hare.
You hadn’t minded, needing the time to get your bearings again after so long spent in a place where you couldn’t read the language. You were raised in Chicago, but you had a difficult relationship with your father, brother and sister. You were the youngest of the three and when your mother had divorced your father, she’d taken soul custody of you while your father had soul custody of Adam and Kate.
Following the divorce, your mother had moved to Fox Lake in the Chain o’ Lakes region. While living there, you attended high school with Greg’s sister, Josephine. You and her had become best friends in a very short time, so when you announced your intentions to join the Navy and go to medical school that way, she’d made you promise to look out for her big brother. You’d met him in a bar in Limassol, Cyprus and got to talking. You’d spotted him and thought he was the most gorgeous man you’d seen in your life, so you’d played it cool. Standing at the bar in your frayed daisy dukes and old band tee you’d bought at a concert with Josie, scuffed red converse high tops with a pair of sunglasses you’d “borrowed” from Ethan. Greg had first noticed the sleeve of tattoos on your right arm, and ran his eyes down your body, shamelessly checking you out. Spicy, one of the men in his unit had told him to stop leering and shoved him in your direction to talk to you.
He'd told the barman to get him what you were having, which was a double Jack Daniels on the rocks. He’d been surprised to see such a pretty thing drinking something so strong, and then he’d introduced himself. Gerwitz was a common name last name in Fox Lake. Generations had lived there. So you’d asked if he knew Josie, and he’d laughed and told you he was her sister. The conversation had flowed from there, and soon last call was being announced. You’d written your number on a napkin and told him to call you before Ethan had grabbed you and thrown you over his shoulder while you shrieked.
“Sorry man, Spooks here’s got work in the morning.” He’d teased while you comically kicked your legs and demanded he put you down. It was a common thing with the guys in your unit. They all viewed you as their baby sister and were a teensy bit overprotective. The whole time you’d spoken to Mouse they’d sat plotting his demise, until they’d seen you tuck your hair behind your ear. It was something you did when you flirted, so they knew you liked him.
“Fifty bucks says she’s got a ring on her finger by the end of next year.” Hill had chuckled. Ethan had been the only one who agreed, the rest saying there was no way he could tie you down.
It wasn’t like you were a hoe, but many had tried and failed to ask you out. It was like you were waiting for the right man to show up, and show up he had. Drinking whiskey until last call, and texting you immediately.
“Why do they call you Spooks?” Had been his first text.
To which you’d told him. You’d earned the nickname during your first deployment to the middle east. Working in field hospitals under immense pressure, you developed a preternatural calm and focus, able to perform complex surgeries in the most chaotic and dangerous situations. Your ability to anticipate medical crises and see what others missed was what solidified the nickname. “Spooks” was a nod to your uncanny intuition, with people whispering that you had a sixth sense for impending disasters. You became skilled at improvising and adapting surgeries with limited resources. You were quiet and reserved to most people, but to the boys in your unit you were formidable. You had no issue jumping in to stop fights happening, often being the one to drag someone away. They were too scared of you to tell you no, knowing they’d likely find a spider or a scorpion in their bed if they did.
You and Greg had reconnected over the festive period. Josie was desperate to see you and had invited you to her parents house for their annual Christmas party. She’d tried introducing you to Greg, but he’d smiled and said you’d already met. He’d hugged you, and said it was good to see you, and just like in Limassol you’d spent the whole evening talking. Josie and her twin, Julian had immediately started plotting to get you two together. it was painfully obvious that you liked each other. Greg’s twin, Gaia had nudged her two younger siblings and joined in the plotting.
But they hadn’t needed to. Greg had asked you to join him for coffee the next day. You’d both earned four weeks off and spent every day together, and when Greg had gone back to Benning, you’d been posted to King’s Bay Submarine Base. It was also in Georgia. Whenever you had weekends off, you would see each other. Braving the five hour drive was worth it in both your opinions. In June following the Gerwitz’s Christmas party, he’d proposed on the beach. You’d immediately called Josie who had yelled for her parents and siblings who were all delighted. Three months later, you tied the knot at the courthouse surrounded by your family and friends. Your father and siblings weren’t present so Commander Winshaw had given you away. Greg’s father, Joe had offered but Winshaw had felt more appropriate. He’d taken you under his wing and supported you from day one, welcoming you into the unit and making sure the boys didn’t give you any crap. Of course they’d loved you immediately though.
Josie had been your maid of honour, with Gaia and a few school friends being your bridesmaids. Naturally, Jay had been Greg’s best man.
Greg turned his head and kissed you passionately before placing you back on the ground. Kissing him was like coming up for oxygen after being underwater. Jay entered the bullpen from interrogation and Voight pulled him aside.
“Why didn’t I know Mouse was married?” He hissed.
“Probably because he doesn’t wear his ring on his finger. She wears his on her dog tags, he wears her engagement and wedding ring on his. They take them off before she goes on deployment and won’t put them back on again unless the other person does it. It’s weird but they’ve been married for five years so I guess it works.” Jay shrugged, taking a sip from his mug.
Voight hummed, letting the two of you have your moment. Greg was still holding you, a smile on his face, eyes closed with content. Eventually though, he cleared his throat. “Who’s your friend, Mouse?” He teased.
Greg’s eyes flew open as his cheeks grew red. “Sergeant Voight, sir. This is Lieutenant Commander Y/N Gerwitz. My wife.” He smiled proudly.
You gave Sergeant Voight an awkward wave as you blushed. Greg had his arm around your waist, and a boyish grin on his face as he held you. He wiggled his fingers against your side, tickling you. You shrieked and grabbed his fingers. “Gregory Arthur Henry Gerwitz if you do that again I’m putting you on the floor!”
He laughed and did it again. Within a second he was on his back, winded. You glared down at him as Voight and Jay cried with laughter. “You were warned.” You growled, offering him a hand back up.
Jay approached you and gave you a hug. “It’s good to see you, Spooks. Been a minute.” He grinned.
“Yeah, yeah Halstead. You’re just upset you won’t have your boy all to yourself anymore.” You chuckled, hugging him back.
Jay rolled his eyes playfully. “Just a little.”
Hank was the next to approach, offering you his hand to shake. “Pleasure to meet you Lieutenant Commander. Thank you for your service.” He said kindly.
You shook it, before thanking him. Greg had talked about Voight before. He admired him greatly and told you that he had taught him a lot about being a good police officer. “Pleasures all mine, sir. Thank you for keeping that one busy.” You chuckled.
Greg blushed and went to speak. You raised your hand. “Hacking DOD satellites to find out my location? Blu-ray players? Someone had to keep you out of trouble Greg, and no offence Jay but I don’t trust you to do it. Just look at what happened in Vegas.”
Jay’s face went white. “You said you wouldn’t tell her about that, man!”
Greg stammered. “She forced it out of me! She wanted to know why you were freaking out so much and calling me at three in the morning!”
Jay had married Abby after a funeral and spent the next week gambling and drinking. When he’d come out of whatever state he was in he’d called Mouse freaking out about what he was going to do. Jay knew deep down that Mouse would tell you. He was awful at keeping secrets, especially from you, and even if he didn’t tell you, you’d find out another way. You knew people who knew people who knew people.
You turned to Mouse. “My key is at home, can I borrow yours? I’m desperate for an actual shower. It’s been buckets of cold water for the last ten months.” You pleaded, giving him puppy eyes.
“I’ll get them from my desk.” He nodded.
Jay shouted after Mouse. “Just give her your car keys too. I’ll give you a ride home!”
You could have hugged Jay in that moment. You’d taken the L train from O’Hare and had to change lines twice, and you’d have to take two to get home plus an uphill walk to get home. You had a car here, but it was hardly used. Greg would occasionally drive it to work and to get groceries to keep it running, but even then it was once a week at most. You both owned the same car; a Volkswagen Tiguan SUV, but Greg’s was black and yours was white.
You lived in a three bedroom home in Glen Ellyn. The precinct was in Pilsen, if you got public transport it would take an hour and a half to get home. With driving, it would be thirty minutes at most. Taking Greg’s car would mean you got showered and into bed quicker. The jet lag at this point was killing you too.
Voight offered to let Greg go home with you, but you stopped him. “Thank you for the offer Sergeant Voight but I need a nap and I’m not gonna get that if he comes with because he’ll go full ADHD mode and start vacuuming. Besides, you’re all very busy and I’d hate to take someone from your team.” You smiled.
Greg cursed internally. Why couldn’t you have said yes?
Sergeant Voight chuckled. “I’ll make sure he finishes later then.” He winked.
“Hey!” Greg complained, rolling his eyes as his shoulders slumped forward.
Greg passed you his keys, you smiled when you saw the silver Mickey Mouse keychain. You’d gotten him it as a joke when you’d visited Disneyworld in Florida. In turn, he’d gotten you a Minnie Mouse one that was still attached to your keys.
“You’ll have to walk her out, Mouse. She’ll need your pass to get out of the parking lot.” Voight stated.
Greg nodded, taking your hand in his as you said bye to Jay. He walked you down the hall and downstairs into the sallyport. When you noticed the cage your eyes widened. “Remember how as kids we were told about a black site in the Chicago PD? We all thought it was a rumour? Turns out this is it.” Greg explained, seeing your expression.
“Josie owes me twenty bucks then.” You chuckled.
Greg scanned his key card before taking you to the car and putting your bag in the trunk. He then clicked home on the Satnav. Your ETA was about forty minutes with traffic by the looks of things. As expected, Greg’s car was spotless. Not a stray coffee cup or McDonald’s drive-thru bag in site. There was a clean linen scented air freshener hanging from the rearview mirror. You got in and adjusted the seat, pulling yourself closer to the steering wheel and adjusting the head rest and angle of the driver’s seat. Greg groaned, knowing fine he’d have to re-adjust it tomorrow morning before work. In fairness, he’d done the same to your car.
“Okay bright eyes, I shall see you at home.” You smiled, leaning forward to kiss him.
Greg smiled, a boyish grin that lit up his eyes. “I’ve waited ten months to hear you say those words bambi. I’ll see you at home. I love you, drive safe.” He gave you a quick peck on the lips before walking to the gate and scanning his key card again. You smiled at him and waved before he patted the back of the car twice, watching as you drove off.
Once back upstairs, he set about making himself coffee while whistling. Ruzek walked in and asked why he was so happy.
“Wife’s home from deployment.” He grinned.
Ruzek looked shocked. “I didn’t know you were married man, congrats!” He smiled, patting his back.
With his coffee made, Greg picked up the files he’d dropped and set about tracking someone’s phone. He sipped slowly as he observed their whereabouts. When the perp stopped, he waited a few minutes before telling Jay and Hailey where he was. They set out to bring the guy in and came back around an hour later.
Greg frowned, wondering why the ring doorbell hadn’t alerted him to your presence. “Voight? The wife isn’t home yet and it was supposed to take forty minutes. Mind if I track her phone?” He asked, slightly panicked.
Voight nodded. “Go for it, Mouse.”
Mouse began tracking and sighed with relief when he saw you were at the grocery store. You were probably picking up some essentials like body wash and shampoo, along with some fresh underwear and socks. At the end of every deployment, you binned your socks and underwear. It was for hygiene purposes, as the water never got hot enough for them to be properly clean, and drinking water was rationed.
You ignored the looks from passers by as you shopped, throwing a few frozen pizzas into your cart alongside the shower stuff. You’d burned through the last of your nice shower gel months ago and had resorted to using the Dove body bars Greg sent in your care packages. But like the letters, they were few and far between because of the security risks.
You made your way to the fresh fruit aisle, smiling when you saw fresh strawberries and raspberries. You hadn’t had decent food in months. You grabbed a few containers before heading to the drinks aisle and snatching up a bottle of wine.
Once finished, you got back in the car and drove home. You lived in a quiet residential area with a lot of families. You were pleased to see that Greg or realistically his father had mowed the lawn while you were away. It was tidy, with flowers bordering the sides planted by Gwendolynne, his mom. You pulled up next to your car and got out, taking your shopping bags with you. Your bergen could wait. You approached the forest green front door with the ring doorbell on it. You pulled a face at the camera and yelled “Honey, I’m home!” teasingly, knowing Greg would get a kick out of it.
Once inside, you crossed the white wooden floors into the kitchen. Nothing had changed in the time you’d been gone, and you meant nothing. It was as if your home had stood frozen in time. In the centre of your kitchen, there was an island with a sink and barstools at the end. You put your berries on it before meandering to the freezer. You scoffed, there was nothing in it aside for a few containers of frozen soup made by your mom months ago. You checked the fridge and were relieved to see actual food in there. There wasn’t much, a couple of chicken breasts, some yogurts, almond milk in the door, some vegetables and a fuck load of hot sauce. No surprise there, Greg practically drank the stuff.
You next went to the living room, smiling when you saw comic books left on the coffee table, there was an empty coffee mug next to them so you picked it up and put it in the dishwasher before heading upstairs.
You sighed with relief when you entered your bedroom with its en-suite. Part of the appeal of the house when you’d both bought it had been the main bedroom’s en-suite bathroom. It was large, with a bath and a shower. Greg’s toothbrush and razor were next to the sink, along with a half filled bottle of peach scented hand soap. There was a lone black bath towel on the heated radiator, and a matching one on the hook next to the sink.
There was a linen closet in the hallway, stocked with black, white and grey towels. You grabbed a large grey one and a smaller grey one. It was a thing you and Greg had. You hated sharing towels. Yours were grey, his were black, and the guest’s towels were white. With the towels safely secured you headed back into the bedroom to dig out some pyjamas. You’d lost a bit of weight on deployment due to living off of rations and on your feet for up to eighteen hours a day, the pyjama pants would be loose for sure, you grabbed them anyway, along with one of Greg’s t-shirts. It was well worn and soft and smelled like him.
That shower was the best in your life. You grimaced when you saw the dirt go down the drain but you honestly weren’t surprised. Washing yourself with a bucket, cup and rag never kept you properly clean. You’d only washed your hair when you absolutely had to, it was easier to manage when it was greasy and kept under a surgical cap. Shaving had been an absolute no go, it was too much of an infection risk. You were pretty sure you resembled a gorilla at this point. Even your nails had to be filed instead of clipped.
Once out of the shower, you applied a heap of moisturiser, relishing in the feeling of being clean and dolphin smooth. You approached your bed, giggling like a madman and throwing yourself down on it with complete glee, spreading your arms out like a starfish. You didn’t bother getting under the comforter, the second you were comfortable you were out like a light.
Greg thanked Jay for dropping him at home and approached the front door with a smile. The house felt different already. Your boots were placed neatly by the door, sitting next to his own pair, just like they were meant to. He checked the living room, shaking his head when he saw you’d put his cup in the dishwasher. His feet padded slowly up the carpeted staircase, careful not to trigger any creaking steps as he made his way up.
Greg chuckled when he saw you spread out like a starfish on your back, chest moving slowly, eyes closed. He kissed your forehead gently before pulling the green knitted blanket over you and heading back downstairs to order dinner. There was an old Italian restaurant close to your home that made the most amazing pizzas. He ordered two with extra pepperoni and gave strict instructions for the delivery driver to text him once he was outside.
You woke up not knowing what planet you were on, how long had you been asleep? You tossed the blanket off of you and dug your toes into your cozy slippers, throwing on one of Greg’s hoodies before making your way downstairs. He was stood at the island drinking a beer, pizza box open and half eaten while he scrolled through his phone.
You slinked up to him and wrapped your arms around his waist, face pressing into his back. “Hey Bambi. You sleep okay?” He asked gently. He felt you nod, a hand stretching out from behind his waist and making grabby motions.
He chuckled and passed you his beer. You swatted his hand away and made the grabby motion again. “Darlin’ you’re not getting pizza grease on this shirt.” He teased.
“But I’m hugging you” you whined, holding him tighter.
Greg placed his hand over yours delicately. “You need to eat.” He sighed.
You pouted before unravelling your arms and sitting on one of the stools before grabbing a slice of pizza. You chewed slowly, savouring the taste, whilst you did that, Greg went to the cupboard and got a wine glass, setting it down on the countertop before opening the bottle of wine in the fridge and pouring you a glass.
He set it down next to you, chuckling when you moaned after the first sip. You both ate your food wordlessly, basking in each other’s presence after so long away. The kitchen felt homely for the first time in months, the room feeling warmer, brighter.
“That was so damn good.” You chuckled, taking another sip of wine.
Greg nodded, equally happy. He gazed at you, taking in every new freckle. Your hair had gotten longer, where it was once at your shoulders, it now reached your waist. It looked soft and shiny. He reached out to tuck a strand behind your ear before kissing your temple.
You were home. Really home. The ache in his chest had been so constant it was as if it had been permanent. The fatigue that was etched on your face didn’t stop the light in your eyes from shining through. The eyes that he had fallen victim to six and a half beautiful years ago. He’d obsessed over the way the corners crinkled when you laughed for days, the way they’d lit up when you’d spoken about your misadventures with Josie. Your love had endured countless deployments, so many crackly phone calls and video calls with a distinct lack of privacy and constant teasing from the boys in your unit.
He'd kept a photo of you as his home screen, not wanting people in intelligence to ask about you if it was his lockscreen. A photo of you taken whilst on a walk in the woods in the town you both grew up in. You were sitting on a tree branch high above him, holding his cap in your hand mid laugh. He’d told you to get down, worried that you would fall, and instead you’d climbed higher, laughing when you perched yourself on the branch.
Every night for the past ten months he had gazed at it, wishing so badly you were in his arms, and now you were home. You turned and gazed into blue eyes you’d missed for what felt like a thousand nights, before standing on your tiptoes and kissing him deeply.
Greg moaned into the kiss, his hands gripping your hips. Your fingers threaded through his hair as you bit his lip, a sure sign that you wanted something.
“What do you need, sweet girl?” He asked, voice thick.
You could practically feel the gush of wetness between you legs at his tone. “You. All of you. Make love to me like it’s our first time again.” You breathed, chest heaving.
That was all he needed, in an instant he had you over his shoulder and was running up the steps, he dumped you on the bed and began kissing you furiously. His hands found the hem of your hoodie and began lifting it over your head, tossing it who knows where while your hands made quick work of his shirt. Your hands flew to his hips, pulling his belt off with a sharp snapping noise before you found the button of his jeans. He shrugged them off along with his boxers before pulling down your pyjama pants.
His mouth practically watered at the sight of your pretty lace covered pussy. “I know you didn’t take those with you.” He groaned, flicking your nipple over the t-shirt you wore.
“Surprise, daddy.” You hissed in his ear, nibbling it. You let your hand drift downward, gripping the head of his thick cock and circling your thumb at the tip.
He moaned before pushing your hand away. “Stop. This is all about you sweet girl. I need to taste you.”
You opened your legs with a smirk and beckoned him with a finger. “Then taste me.”
His head flew between your thighs as his hands gripped the waistband of your panties. He licked over them, groaning at the almost honey-like taste of your pussy that was leaking through. With a sharp tug, they ripped, exposing you to the cold air of your bedroom. His tongue found your clit, slowly and painfully circling it. You moaned, hands tightening in his hair as he found your entrance. He swirled his tongue around, moaning at the taste of you as his thumb pressed gently on your clit. One hand lazily traced circles on your hip, his tongue exploring every inch of you. He flicked his tongue quicker before suckling on your clit, his fingers pushing inside you and curling upwards. Electricity danced through your spine as you arched, your hips only pushing closer to his face. Your head was thrown back as your breathy moans of pleasure filled the room. It was Greg’s favourite sound, your hands flew to the sheets, gripping them with your nails so tight you thought you’d put a hole in them.
Greg’s movements quickened, sucking harshly. He heard you and felt your legs shake, his tongue and fingers becoming more urgent, more desperate. You felt the coil build, the pleasure only growing more intense until it burst, your body convulsing. Greg kept going, guiding you through your orgasm before he lifted his head. His face was wet and he wore a look of satisfaction. He climbed up your body, hands reaching behind your back as he pulled you up. He kissed you again, tasting yourself on his tongue.
Your hand drifted down his back, nails digging in when he began suckling at the sweet spot under your ear. When he stopped you whined.
“I need to see you. All of you sweet girl. Will you let me?” He asked gently.
You nodded, letting him pull the t-shirt over your head. Greg’s hands cupped your breasts and squeezed. “You’re wearing the wrong tags.” He breathed, pulling the chain over your head.
You did the same to him, tugging gently. Greg was a possessive man, and seeing you naked wearing nothing but HIS dog tags did something primal to him. Your rings were still attached, making a clinking sound as he gently lowered you back down to the bed, kissing you.
His hips rolled forward, the tip of his rock hard cock kissing your clit gently. He shifted again, probing your entrance. You hissed, ten months was a long time to be away from each other. And Greg wasn’t lacking down there. His cock when hard was almost the length of your forearm and as thick as your wrist. The first time he’d made love to you, you’d almost backed out. “That’s not gonna fit!” You’d cried.
To which he’d responded. “I’ll make it fit.”
“Fuck you’re gonna split me in two.” You moaned, urging him forward.
“Good.” He grinned, his mouth moved to your nipple. Tongue gently caressing the tip while his thumb brushed the other one. You let him enter you slowly, hissing at the stretch of him against your walls.
Your nails scratched down his back, drawing blood in the process. Greg hissed in pain but pushed his hips forward again, you moaned.
“Move… I need you to move.” You panted.
Greg began to rock his hips, pulling you into his lap. You moved with him, taking the time to get used to the feeling. You threw your head back, eyes rolling into your skull as his head found your neck again. There was a harmony between the two of you, a choir song of pleasure and passion. You rocked your hips faster against Greg’s.
“Fuck sweet girl. Look how good you take it.” He groaned, grabbing your chin in a bruising grip and forcing you to look down at where you were connected, you could see the bulge of his cock in your stomach. He was so deep.
You let out a high pitched whine as his hand found your neck and squeezed. “That’s it sweet girl. Take all of me. Every inch. I want you to feel me in every pore for weeks.” He grunted, pressing his thumb to your lips. You opened your mouth and sucked, nails digging into the flesh of his back deeper.
His left hand rested on the flesh of your thighs and he chuckled, they were quivering. You were again, resembling the character you’d gotten your nickname from. “Your thighs are shaking so much, sweet girl. You wanna cum for me?” He cooed, sucking a purple mark into your neck.
You nodded, whining. “I can’t- please, Daddy- I can’t”
Greg’s thumb found your clit again, circling hard and rapid. It wasn’t long before he felt you clenching around him for the second time. He increased his thrusts, pounding into you harder and faster as he laid you down again. Your legs were still wrapped around his waist. “C’mon sweet girl. I know you’re close. Cum for me. Cum for Daddy.” He grunted.
The dam inside you burst as you screamed, with Greg continuing to use to. He came with a shout, teeth sinking into the soft skin of your breast. He stayed inside you until he was soft, stroking your cheek and whispering sweet words in your ear. “You did so well, sweet girl. So so well.” He murmured against the heated flesh of your neck.
You smiled. “I love you.”
Greg kissed you deeply, a hand grabbing yours and placing it on his chest. “Feel this?”
You nodded, stroking your fingers against the tattoo of your name in your handwriting.
“It’s beating again. It beats for you.” He smiled.
You smiled back, tracing the ink. Greg had gotten it before his last deployment. You were his soul, and he wanted to take a part of you with him. He’d saved every letter, so he asked if it was okay that he got it done. You’d nodded, and asked him the same thing. His initials were under your breast on your left side. You had a few more tattoos. A shellback turtle was on the inside of your left arm. You’d gotten it done in Hawai’i after crossing the equator.
The day before the crossing, a senior officer had been named “King Neptune” and called upon his court, AKA people who had crossed the equator before. You’d all gathered on the top deck, and those who hadn’t yet crossed were ordered to prove their worth by entertaining the king. Some people had danced, others had recited poems. One guy had even rapped the entirety of Rap God by Eminem. The crowd had gone wild. Unfortunately you were the one going last, and you had absolutely no idea what to do, until in a spur of the moment decision, you’d started performing an old gymnastics floor routine. You’d been co-captain of the gymnastics team with Josie in high school. So you moved your body, flipping and cartwheeling on the deck before landing in the splits. Like the Rap God guy, the crowd had gone wild.
The next day, you were woken up at the ass crack of dawn. The equator was fast approaching, and it was now time for the challenges. For breakfast, you were given a slice of toast covered in peanut butter and hot sauce, before being given a shot of lemon juice. After that, you’d had to run around the entirety of the ship until you hit two miles. An officer accompanying King Neptune had been designated the royal baby, and had attacked a basketball to his stomach with duct tape that was then smeared with cod liver oil. The smell was horrendous, and you and your crewmates had been ordered to kiss the “belly.” When at long last you’d crossed the equator, the ship stopped. You were then ordered to jump into the ocean. It had been the best swim of your life. Somewhere in the house, there was a photo of you and Ethan on your crossing day. You’d worn a grey navy t-shirt with your bathing suit underneath and a pair of black running shorts. Ethan was wearing the same, except his shorts were swimming trunks.
Along with your turtle, you had a few more tattoos. Your wedding anniversary was written in roman numerals on your left wrist, there was a nautical star on the outside of your right ankle, with an anchor on the inner part. Your sleeve tattoo was nature themed, with shaded mushrooms, wild roses, butterflies, dragonflies and various other native plants found around Fox Lake. There was a moon cycle tattoo going down your spine too.
Greg also had a couple, there were a few swallows dedicated to the memory of some friends he’d lost overseas, your wedding anniversary tattooed on his right wrist, and obviously your name tattooed over his heart. Some people at work had asked about the visible ones and he’d said they were for personal reasons.
Greg pulled out, causing you to hiss in pain. “You want a bath, bambi?” He asked, stroking your cheek.
Your eyes lit up as you nodded. “Oh my god yes.”
He chuckled, kissing you. “I’ll go get your wine and fruit too then.”
“Thanks bright eyes.” You winked, pulling the green blanket over you.
You reached over to your nightstand and grabbed your phone, sending a text to your Mom first letting her know you were home and that you’d call her tomorrow. She understood completely, knowing that you’d want to catch up with Greg.
The next person on your “Hi I’m home” list was Ethan. The second the text showed as delivered he was calling you. You answered, rolling your eyes.
“Yes?” You answered.
“Oh ouch, Gerwitz. Here I thought you’d be dying to hear from your best friend.” He teased.
“Ahh, not really.” You teased back.
You could hear Ethan chuckle on the other end. “How long you home for?” He asked.
“Permanently. I’m moving to the reserves, but I haven’t told Greg yet.” You sighed.
Ethan hummed in response, a grin spreading across his face. “So you’ll need a job then.”
“Yep.” You answered, staring at a spot on the wall.
“How’d you feel about working together again? Med needs a neurosurgeon and I happen to know of the best one in the Navy.”
You shot up. “Are you being serious right now?”
“Yeah. The guy’s moving to Seattle. Got offered the chief position, and now we need a new chief. Bosses don’t wanna internally promote. There’s too much rivalry.” He sighed.
“Interesting.” You hummed.
Greg walked in. “Bambi who’re you talkin’ to?” He asked, a smile on his face. He was wearing only his boxer shorts and holding your wine and strawberries. There was no finer sight. You bit your lip as you stared at him and wiggled your brows.
“It’s Choi.” You smiled.
“Oh. Hey Ethan!” He called, placing the wine and berries on your nightstand and going into the en-suite to start your bath.
“Hey Mouse.” He called.
You cleared your throat. “So this working together thing.”
“I can pass on your details to Sharon Goodwin. She’s the Chief of Medical and Patient Services, basically keeps the hospital running like clockwork. She was asking me today if I knew anyone actually.” He answered.
“That sounds great. What’s the team like? Are they reliable?” You questioned, motioning for Greg to sit.
“They’re good. Reliable yes. Sam Abrams is also a neurosurgeon. He’s a pain in the ass. Doesn’t have a good bedside manner in all honesty, he’s middle aged and has no sense of humour. The other neurosurgeon guy is Clifton Gottfried. He’s okay, don’t see him much, he’s also middle aged. Prefers to be up in neuro most of the time so chances are you’ll be working with Abrams.” Ethan explained.
You rolled your eyes. “Great. So if I get the job, I’ll be the only girl and the youngest.”
Ethan chuckled. “As if you’ve let that bother you before, Spooks.”
Greg snatched the phone from your hand and put it on speaker. “Choi. I’m stealing my wife back now. You can talk to her tomorrow!”
Ethan burst out laughing. “Sure thing, Gerwirtz’s. You two have a good night.”
Greg hung up before you could say goodbye and pouted. “It’s supposed to be husband and wife time, not Spooks and Choi time.”
You giggled, leaning in to kiss him. “I texted to let him know I was home, and he called. You know he has an allergy to texting.”
He rolled his eyes. “What’s this about a job though?” He murmured, eyes going to your bare breasts.
“Eyes up here, Greg.” You teased.
He licked his lips and locked eyes with you, a grin on his face.
“I’ve moved to the reserves. I wanna be home. With you. No more deployments for a bit.” You smiled.
“Really?” He asked.
You nodded. “Really. Med needs a new chief of neurosurgery and aren’t planning on promoting in house. Ethan’s passing on my details to Sharon Goodwin.”
Greg grinned. “You’d be perfect for that, you know that right?”
You shrugged. “I don’t know. Chief is a big jump from the Navy, but the worst they can say is no. I’ve done the teaching qualifications, I can lecture at one of the colleges. It’s not like I won’t be able to find work.”
Greg cupped your cheeks with his hands and kissed you again. “You’ll get it, Bambi. They’d be dumb not to hire you on the spot. You’re probably overqualified for it too.”
You closed your eyes, enjoying the warmth. “Thanks, baby.” You murmured.
He kissed your forehead gently. “Anytime. Now.” He stood up, offering you his hand and guiding you into the bathroom. He’d put bubble bath in and lit a few candles, the room smelling of lavender.
“Your bath, my darling wife.” He smiled. You held his hand as you got in. The bath was deep and you didn’t want to fall. When you slid down in the water, you groaned and then smiled when Greg put your wine and berries on the bamboo bath tray. He kissed you again before jumping in the shower.
Once out, he wrapped a towel around his toned waist and kissed your hair as he walked past, grabbing underwear and a t-shirt for you and boxers for him. He also grabbed a book, and began reading to you while you relaxed. Greg rested his back against the tub and you rested your head against his own.
You were finally home, and for the first time in ten months, your soul was at peace.
Companion piece to How Long Have You Been Hiding This
Greg finds you in the bedroom, sitting on the bed reading a children’s book to your baby bump. You’re seven months pregnant at this point and glowing. Every day his daughter grows stronger and everyday he thanks God for bringing the two of you into his life.
“I don’t want to talk about it.” You say softly, flicking over the next page of the book and Greg sighs as he leans in the doorway.
“We should.” He says quietly as he steps into the room. “Your ex gets released on parole next week.”
You’d gotten the letter this morning, you hadn’t even tried to hide it this time. You’d just left it on the table before you went to work for him to read because even now you still can’t process the possibility if that monster being in your orbit. Your hand smooths over the baby bump sadly.
“I lost one before.” You find yourself telling him. “I was four months pregnant when he shoved me down a flight of stairs. That was his own child, his baby, he’ll have no problem trying to hurt this one.”
“Charlie.” Greg murmurs as he sits down on the bed alongside of you. “I won’t let that happen and neither will you…”
“I can’t be here Greg.” You tell him, your eyes stinging. “I can’t be in this city if he’s here too.”
“Baby,” He whispers, clasping your face between his hands. “You don’t mean that.”
“I do you.” You tell him, gesturing at the packed suitcase propped up alongside the dresser. “The only reason I stayed was to say goodbye.”

'I saw you with him, he's in love with you you know'
"I saw you with him, he's in love with you, you know."
There was no question in Greg's voice, rather he spoke nonchalantly, but you knew there was more left unsaid.
You roll your eyes, tired of the jealousy. "I've told you. I feed him. Of course he's in love with me."
"But Rascal is my dog," Greg pouts. "Come on buddy. Let's play ball." He waves the toy in his hand attempting to entice the animal away from you. The canine in question lifts his head from your lap, tilts his head in Greg's direction, lets out a low gruff, before resuming his previous position. Greg walks away pouting while you laugh.
