Barnaby and the great misunderstanding
Taking advantage of one of the few days a year Hogwarts got good weather, the two of you made an agreement to meet at the outside tables on the cobbled courtyard
it was a Friday afternoon and you didn't bother changing out of your uniform for the study session
when you arrived, Barnaby was already waiting at one of the tables
you thought your eyes were deceiving you, at first
he was wearing a nice shirt tucked into a pair of smart trousers and on the table in front of him
when you approached him, he stood up abruptly
saying hi, he leaned in to kiss your cheek and in your state of shock, you leaned away
"Oh! Sorry, I didn't mean to... I thought that's what you do, on dates, I mean..."
"Dates?" you repeated in disbelief.
"Yeah, you said 'it's a date, then', didn't you? I was surprised, but also grateful..."
You immediately felt hot, that meant the whole time Barnaby thought you had asked him out, and in such a weird way
You felt bad, you knew he'd be embarrassed, but you had to tell him the truth
Both of you felt equally awkward
After a few minutes of silence, you decided you weren't gonna get any studying done anyway
So you gathered up your courage and suggested the two of you going on a date after all, but a fun one
So you went to the spot where Care of Magical Creatures classes were held, to lift Barnaby's mood a bit
You had a great time playing with Kettleburn's crup pups, puffskeins and various other creatures
Seeing Barnaby in this environment filled your stomach with butterflies
And when you said goodbye that evening, you planted a kiss on his cheek, suggesting you should definitely go on another date soon
