We speak with Transistor lead writer Greg Kasavin about how things have changed at Supergiant Games since the success of Bastion, the process of developing a strong female lead and whether or not we can expect another "tough decision" ending.
A DOTA2 Podcast featuring Greg Kasavin talking about his experience with the game as well as the little influences that went into Transistor and talking about some game design challenges. Warning, the podcast is primarily DOTA2 centered and if you do not enjoy hearing about it I suggest not clicking on the link. Thank you.
At PAX Prime Katy Goodman had the pleasure of chatting with Supergiant Game’s Greg Kasavin about their up-and-coming title, Transistor.
I found something interesting in this interview. Greg states that the demo starts right after the beginning of the game. The PAX Prime 2013 demo was updated to start right as Red pulls the Transistor from the corpse. From the previous demo we know that there is an entire scene where we see Red get teleported to another location in Cloudbank. She takes a few steps and she sees the Transistor. Those are a ton of assets I feel like they'll use. I doubt the first thing we see when we start the game is going to be a picture of Red with text scrolling over it. That was clearly the early build's design to fill you in on what's happening and still intrigue you. I know Supergiant definitely won't go for that approach because, A: they like giving the player action as soon as possible and B: they recognize the strength of hearing over reading. So they might give us a very short cutscene ala Bastion where it's just a still image with voice over or sound on top of it, or we'll get to play right off the bat and then discover how actually the Transistor helped Red out. All of this is subject to change. Remember, before Bastion came out the whole idea of the game was entirely different from a gameplay perspective. It was going to be centered around growing Buildings and Weapons and so on. Everything they do they repeat it until it feels solid, like they did with Bastion. So we might see an entirely different segment for the first level. Supergiant are amazing and the very notion that they want their fanbase to see the game as soon as possible is great. I place my faith into them and I wish them the best. Transistor is my most anticipated game of all time!
