Fun project snare completed today. A late 1950s/early 1960s Gretsch Dixieland Snare, 14 x 5.5. Replaced the old clips and rims for new 2.3mm 6-lug hoops, new Puresound Snare wire, new strainer cord, Hendrix sleeved washers and a Evans dry Genera batter head with a hazy Remo Ambassador on the snare side. Nice pitch high and low and super dry with the new head. Records fantastic and the new hoops (not period I know don’t hate me) make all the difference in the world in keeping this snare in tune.
