"Do you have any idea what time it is?"

-------- Kati leaned against the door frame, a sigh slipping through her lips before she answered his question. “Of course I know what time it is,” she muttered. She rolled her eyes at the question and hoped that the action was small enough that he would not be able to notice it and call her out. “Be a gentleman, Cooper - invite me in.” 

Without waiting for a proper introduction, Kati pushed herself off the door frame that had been holding her support and stumbled into Griffin’s place. She had been there before and was surprised she had been able to find it given the state of intoxication she was in. She wasn’t the type of person who opened up easily, nor would she have showed up to his place uninvited had she been sober. Kati wasn’t meaning to use the fact that she spent the night drinking as an excuse for being unannounced and rude, but she had been in the area and she wasn’t quiet ready to climb into her own bed.

Turning back around to face Griffin, Kati smiled at him before she spoke again. “I was in the neighbourhood,” she started to explain. The next set of words hung on her lips, finding the perfect way to come out without making her vulnerable. He had been nice to her so far, but that didn’t mean she was ready to open up to someone new. It always found a way to bite her in the ass when she did and Kati had learned from that. It was not something she was ever going to do lightly again - no matter how nice someone was. Or pretended to be. 

“I wasn’t ready to go home,” she finally said, looking up at Griffin through the tops of her eyelashes. “I thought maybe you’d like some company.”

Together they walk along the stars, a concrete and fleeting girl made human by her passions and this young man – cut him and a combination of ichor and sunshine will pour, like waterfalls if you ask it of him. A god among mere boys, a phoenix rising from the ashes of his former self, Victoria is grateful to know him. 

When they first meet it is a cloudy day in the Big Apple. Eric had insisted she meet Griffin ( what’s scarier than meeting the parents? the best friend ) and the young Cartwright girl had agreed. Odd that the paths of her two Upper East Side relationships merged together at this one man, the best friend of the boy she might love one day and the boss of the boy who’d provided her only constant in an ever-shifting world. She meets him and immediately imagines what it must feel like to be so bright, imagines what it must feel like to be so warm. 

What must life be like to reach out and not cause hurt. 

They’ve known each other for years now and she still doesn’t have a name for the kind of light that Griffin is – a smile worth a thousand stars voice softer than sunlight – but she love all opportunities to drink it down. He reminds her that life isn’t about not feeling pain or grief, isn’t about letting the past define us, but finding reasons to survive despite the hardships. 

It’s a friendship five years in the making tonight while they rest on the couch and he’s made her a better person, she thinks, as her eyes begin to droop and she finds it hard to lift her head. A film plays in the background, a little bit forgotten and entirely unlistened to, a plush blanket tangled around their laps. Her feet are draped across his own haphazardly and she should really put the glass of wine she hold on the coffee table in front of them, but the score for this movie is so calm and when did it hit 1am? and then a whisper of a smile crosses her lightly freckled face as she feels a hand gently slip the glass from her grasp. 

She feels light and breathy and entirely at peace as she slides into unconsciousness.

spotted : Cooper and Schaaf getting along quite well. Nervous, Schaaf? Be careful, you should never trust someone who pretend to be innocent.

While I find no need to raise a red flag over a coupling that would appear to be innocent at first glance, not even I can deny a certain level of chemistry between the pair; I’d say that Jamie may find a cause for concern, but I think he can rest easy on his thousand thread count sheets. After all, Penelope may have her nerves rattled by a certain Senator’s Son, but we all know she never goes for the guy who’ll treat her as a queen. She’s always been much too content with  s e c o n d  p l a c e.
