First of all, it’s reassuring for me to hear him refer specifically to his “philosophy” because I pulled “battle of philosophies” out of my ass years ago and didn’t think the show would ever back me up. (I learned about it from somewhere, probably TVtropes, but I can’t find a source anymore.)
Anyway, Ralf reiterates that he thought of his holy beast as a tool, so:
Halleluja! Concrete in-universe reason for loss. I had honestly forgotten this and was super happy to see it. I’ve said before that when you introduce antagonists that are vastly more powerful than the heroes, to make it believable that the heroes catch up with and defeat them in a short amont of time, you have to give them a concrete chink in the armour to be exploited so that the heroes don’t just win because they are the heroes. And we get that here. Good writing!
