a / n: thank you @robinharmonylover for making me finish this...its not winter but it is in the story or its just cold. cuz i felt on cold on the moment so it is because i said so. im so sorry for being gone for a while, here's more angst because well hm uhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

Yuu knew something was wrong when Grim stopped complaining; no demands for tuna, no dramatic declarations that he was the greatest mage in all of Sage's Island, no arguments about whose turn it was to clean Ramshackle...

He just layed on the floor infront of the fireplace he usually lights with his blue flames to keep his furr warm. Curse Crowley for leaving the two in the cold in the middle of winter.

"Grim?"

The only sound came from the blue fire, he didn't even look back.

"...What?"

"You've been weird all day." Yuu frowned.

"I'm not weird."

"You haven't caused any problem in 2 hours about now."

"Look at me." Yuu scooted closer waiting for the reply they knew they weren't going to get as grim's ears twitched and he reluctantly turned around.

And Yuu's stomach dropped, the little creature's eyes were tired... Not full of life like they usually are.

"Grim—"

"I'm fine!"

Yuu knelt in front of him.

"Are you being bothered..."

"No, I'm not."

"Grim."

"I'm NOT!"

He wasn't angry, he was sad. Only Yuu knew that best, something they're not proud of. And Yuu was scared.

"What's wrong?"

"...You're gonna leave." Grim looked away, answering after a long moment.

"What?"

"You're gonna leave, y'know..when you'll find a way home."

Yuu froze, not expecting this topic, why would he think about that now?

"You always talk about it, don't you?"

"Grim..."

"You miss your world." his claws dug into the windowsill. "You miss your family."

Your real family is what he meant, he's aware his kind does not exist in your world. And you'll never be able to drag him with you. He already physically hurt you once after all. Yuu couldn't speak, because Grim wasn't wrong.

There had been nights, so many nights when Yuu stared at the mirror chamber and wished for home and to put an end to all of this madness, and Grim was very much aware.

"But I want you to go, you miss your home." tears slipped down Grim's face. "So I want you to find it..."

"But...What am I supposed to do after? Everybody else has somewhere."

"But Ramshackle is just..."

Yuu and him, the words didn't left his mouth, Yuu understood anyway and a terrible ache spread through their chest.

Because Grim wasn't just a friend anymore. Somewhere between surviving overblots and midnight snacks and falling asleep during study sessions and arguing over literally everything...They had become family, the only family Yuu had in this world. The only family Grim ever had.

"You'll forget me, you won't remember the monster that lived in this broken dorm with you."

Yuu grabbed him immediately without thinking, pulling him into their chest. Grim let out a startled noise.

"Yuu—"

"Absolutely not."

The word came out stern, almost angry, they're trying to convince him and themselves. Grim went still and Yuu held him tighter.

"I could never forget you."

"But—"

"I couldn't."

Because suddenly Yuu realized something awful, Grim has never had any family, never had a place as he recalls...He's technically in the same situation as Yuu, except nothing can be done for him.

"You idiot." a laugh escaped Yuu. "You absolute idiot."

"Hey!"

"Do you know how miserable you've made my life?"

"RUDE!"

"You set things on fire."

"Sometimes!"

"You eat everything."

"I DO NOT EAT EVERYTHING!"

"You tried to bite Ace."

"He deserved it."

Yuu laughed, then immediately started crying. Yuu's only ever weak when it comes to Grim, the entire school noticed that, it wasn't new.

"...Yuu?"

"I don't know what's going to happen, I don't know if I'll ever get home."

Grim kept quiet as Yuu buried their face against his fur.

"But if I leave...I'll take every memory of you with me." Grim's eyes widened.

"And if you stay...?"

"Then you're stuck with me forever."

"...Promise ?"

Yuu's smile disappeared, because they knew exactly what he meant, he wanted them to promise not to forget.

"I promise." Yuu pressed their forehead against his.

Grim nodded before finally letting himself cry and Yuu cried with him. And neither of them said what they were both thinking.

Everything was finally over. Yuu couldn’t help but sigh a breath of relief. The whole ordeal between Ace and Riddle was done at last. When them and grim stepped into the bedroom, Yuu collapsed onto the ground. They heard grim make a sound and rush over, wondering if Riddle struck them when he wasn’t looking.

Yuu sat up on the dusty Ramshackle flooring. They smiled at the cat, their roommate now. A smile that pushed up their cheeks, wrinkled their eyes and only a bit of their teeth showed.

“I’m fine, Grim.” They told him, putting a hand on his head before he quickly shoved it away.

Another overblot. God, Grim could remember when he thought it’d only be one. Yuu had talked one time about how they were shocked they hadn’t gone home yet. They said “it’s like a movie, ya know? We beat the big boss, and the story finishes with me going home. Or, I guess it’s more like a game then.” Grim didn’t really get it, which made them chuckle.

He was glad they didn’t go home. He might’ve had to leave the school then! He would never become the great mage he was destined to be! That’s the only reason. Nothing else, yep.

His mind was racing. He wondered if it’d drop another yummy black stone. He hoped so! They tasted great, even if Yuu and Ace and Deuce didn’t like ‘em. The dorm leader laid on the ground and Grim realized he hadn’t heard a word from Yuu.

He looked backwards and saw them laying on the ground. This again? They’d never been so tired they collapsed at the location, but it wasn’t unexpected. “C’mon! We hafta check if he’s ok!” Grim went over and used his paws to shove at their side.

He frowned when they didn’t react. “Hey! Henchman!” He pouted, before smirking and blowing a tiny fire to scare em straight! They have to follow his orders, afterall he’s the great grim!

They didn’t even react to the heat.

No laughter was heard, either.

Last night you had realized that Grim wasn't... himself. You watched as he slept soundly, not talking to himself about tuna or bickering in his dream with you. You should have done something. You should have told Crowley, or someone else, at the very least. You shouldn't have kept it to yourself. You saw the blot on his gem. And yet you did nothing to stop it from taking Grim over.

What a horrible friend.

You woke up to the sound of roaring. You were covered in rubble and your bed was broken to splinters; it was a miracle that you weren't crushed when your dorm collapsed on your unconscious body.

Your body creaked and you groaned as you pushed off what you could. Your skin was torn and bruised, and your joints ached. You wanted to go back to bed for a bazillion years. But you could hear the yells of the NRC inhabitatnts in the distance, and the roars just got more and more aggressive.

Trying to stand, your skin pinched around uncomfortable pieces of concrete that had stuck to it and several splinters. After deciding against reaching for your slippers—which were Seven knows where—you awkwardly stood on your mattress. Balancing on various pieces of drywall and cement, you made your way across the broken building and safely onto the lawn.

Collapsing onto the soft grass, you heard the loud voices of your friends as they cheered and yelled your name. Tired and frustrated, tears welled in your eyes. You just wanted to find Grim so you could go back to sleep and cuddle with him.

Looking up, you saw a blur of students, half of them looking at you and the other half looking at something to their left. When you adjusted your gaze, your vision landed upon a large beast. It had the wings of a dragon, tentacles of an octopus, fingers of a human, the scales of armor, makeup on its face that looked like lace, and oh its face... the face of a cat. The face of Grim, your #1.

But you couldn't help but be scared. Its head turned to face yours, and slowly it started to make its way toward you. Frantic, you started to back up. Away from whatever that was. Because that was most certainly not your cat. The one that loves tuna and complains about everything ever.

The NRC staff and students took this opportunity to strike. Whipping out their magical pens, they all used numerous spells. You could even see Deuce's cauldron.

Hit with an excessive amount of magic, the beast's knees buckled and it fell down. It's head hit the ground with a loud thump, which made you bounce off the ground. Looking at it with a terrified expression, your eyes locked with its eyes, and all you could see in them was recognition and happiness.

And you knew then that the beast still had some of Grim in it. As it's eyes glossed over, a cloud of gray covering the color, all you could do was stare in shock.

He didn't revert to his small size at all.

Of course not.

Why would a dead animal shrink in size?

angst wherein yuu returns to their homeworld and everyone in nrc forgets them and moves on...except for grim.

Yet another au idea! (This blog is basically just a dumping space for my ideas atp)

(Chp 6 spoilers!!!)

What if Grim was based off the Grimm brothers and/or their tales, and hsi unique masgic has something to do with changing others stories and/or endings into a more tragic, pitiful, and gorey demise. (Iir, Grimm brothers tales are basically just twisted versions of already existing tales.) Or the curse that Idia mentioned during chp 6 was the one causing the stories/endings.

If the former, maybe he somehow discovered and used his UM, and inflicted it upon homself (either on accident or on purpose, maybe someone deflected it to him?) and that's how he woke up with little to no memories, his fate changed, destined to become a monster, fated to be slayed.

It's also the reason why the main cast ob, but before they meet their end, or even start the beginning, Yuu somehow ended up in their world, forced to be the hero that brings them to a more happier, disney like end. (Maybe they're Walt Disney themselves lol)

If the latter, maybe Grim is the result of an experiment, paired with a curse that lasted for a 1,000 years, I don't have much ideas for this one so feel free to add in your thoughts instead! I might read some of Grimm Brothers works to get more ideas.

This is probably stupid and already debunked, but I felt like Yuu has too much angst on my blog so Grim is the unfortunate victim instead :) Again, feel free to add in your own ideas for this concept!

Inside the room in STYX, Grim has never felt so... alone... before.

Which is pretty ridiculous, after all; he, the Great Grim, has lived his entire childhood alone, with no one to go to.

He's lived his entire life without anything.

The STYX room was pretty clean, food was served often, and there's a bunch of stuff. It's practically luxury compared to his childhood and back at Ramshackle!!

...

Oh right... Ramshackle... Yuu...

...

Grim has a hunch as to why he feels this way...

Because Yuu isn't there.

Yuu is... Grim's henchman, his partner, his best friend!

They're practically halves of a whole!!

Grim is... lonely... without his best friend.

Oh gosh...

He hit them too, didn't he...?

Why did he have to push away the only person... who let him in?

If it weren't for Yuu, Grim would have NEVER seen, felt, and experienced a bunch of things!

With Yuu, life is an adventure! A fun experience.

Though there's a bunch of trouble here and there... Yuu's always got Grim's back.

And Grim's always got Yuu's back...

Right...?

But now...

No matter how pretty, how clean, how luxurious, how cozy this STYX room is...

Nothing beats the warmth and familiarity of Ramshackle.

Nothing beats the sound of laughter in Ramshackle, be it with the ghosts, or other friends.

Most of all...

Nothing beats the warmth of Yuu's embrace.

But...

Yuu doesn't want Grim anymore... do they...?

It's understandable, after all.

Grim hurt Yuu.

Grim never listened to them.

He made them have to go through a bunch of things that they wouldn't have to....

Ever since Yuu, it just didn't feel like just the Great Grim anymore...

But the Great, Great Yuu, and their henchman, the Great Grim.

But...

Grim would never feel that way again, would he now?

*sniff sniff*

"Fgnnyaa?! Why does it smell really weird...? Blegh!! Smells like rotten fruit mixed with cottage cheese!!"

"There's a bunch of gas comin' out of nowhere!! Looks real scary- I MEAN! NO! THE GREAT GRIM ISN'T SCARED OF ANYTHIN'!!"

"Ahh... right... forgot I wasn't with the henchman..."

"*sniff* *sniff* GAH! Why am I getting really sleepy now...? Ngyaahhh, Imma just... take a quick... nap..."

"..."

Oh dear, it seems no one came for the poor, unfortunate monster.
