Discover the New Void Shadows DLC and Grim Darkness Mode in Warhammer 40,000: Rogue Trader
Void Shadows DLC and new game mode launches in Warhammer 40,000: Rogue Trader on Linux and Steam Deck via Windows PC with Grim Darkness. Thanks to the brilliant work of the team at Owlcat Games. Available now on both Steam and Humble Store. Owlcat Games has released some exciting news for Warhammer 40,000: Rogue Trader fans. Along with the release of the Void Shadows DLC, they’ve introduced a new mode called Grim Darkness — and intense for those brave enough to try it. Plus, there’s a Twitch Drops event happening for the first time ever in Rogue Trader. So let’s dive into what you can expect on Linux and Steam Deck.
What’s Grim Darkness Mode?
Grim Darkness mode isn’t for the faint of heart. It’s the ultimate test for the most daring and experienced Lord Captains. Here's the twist — there's only one save file. That's right, no do-overs. If you make a bad decision or your party gets wiped, it's game over for your entire journey through the Koronus Expanse. Every choice matters, every battle counts. This mode is perfect for anyone looking for a serious challenge where every decision can be your last, adding to your Void Shadows gameplay.
Let the Competition Begin!
To kick off this new mode, Owlcat is hosting a Grim Darkness Challenge. They’re inviting streamers to jump in and compete for the title of ultimate Rogue Trader. The goal? To either beat, or get as far as possible, in this mode on the Daring difficulty. Streamers will be battling it out live over the course of two weeks, and there’s only one winner. The champion gets a unique prize — and bragging rights. A great time for Linux and Steam Deck players to jump too. The competition is already live and runs until November 4, 2024, at 23:59 GMT. If you’re curious about all the rules, victory conditions, or even how to get involved, you can find all the details here.

First Ever Twitch Drops for Rogue Trader
Along with the Void Shadows DLC, things get even more fun. Owlcat has lined up the first-ever Twitch Drops for Warhammer 40,000: Rogue Trader. If you watch just one hour of any stream of the game, you’ll unlock some nice in-game rewards. Here’s what you can get:
A pack of mind-twitching grenades
A helmet of tactical superiority
A special servo skull (apparently, it talks if you click it!)
These Twitch Drops are available until November 4th, so make sure you tune in to catch those freebies. More details about the exact Twitch Drops are available here.

What’s New in Void Shadows?
The Void Shadows DLC adds a whole new chapter to the Rogue Trader experience. You’ll dive into a new story that fits right into the main campaign, exploring more about the lives of your voidship’s crew. But the real threat comes from a new enemy lurking in the shadows: the Genestealer Cult. These creepy xenos have a nasty trick—they secretly infect your crew, messing with their genetic code and turning them against you. It’s up to you to deal with this lurking danger before it’s too late.
About Warhammer 40,000: Rogue Trader
For those new to the title, in Warhammer 40,000: Rogue Trader, you step into the shoes of a Rogue Trader — the leader of an ancient family of daring space explorers. You’ve got a massive voidship and a loyal crew at your command. Your job is to explore uncharted territories, trade with other planets, and make some tough decisions along the way. Whether you show mercy or rule with an iron fist is up to you. And every choice you make affects not just your crew, but entire star systems.
Void Shadows Availability
You can grab the Void Shadows DLC on both Steam and Humble Store. Oh, and if you’re into multiplayer, the Windows PC version now has co-op, so you can tackle the galaxy with your friends on Linux and Steam Deck (verified) with Proton. Priced at $17.99 USD / £14.99 / 17,49€. That’s everything you need to know about what’s happening with Warhammer 40,000: Rogue Trader right now. Whether you're jumping into Grim Darkness mode, joining the competition, or just tuning into the Twitch streams for those sweet Drops. It’s a great time to be a fan. The base game is available on Steam and Humble Store. It's also available on GOG, along with the new DLC. BUT you'll have to use Proton manually.

A First Look at 40K Warhammer 7th Edition – Dark Millennium
Let us take a look at the second book of three core books that make the new edition of Warhammer 40K: Dark Millennium.
If A Galaxy of Warcorresponds to the hobby/miniature-gallery sections of the old single-volume book (albeit poorly, IMO), Dark Millennium covers the background section. A 128 page on Who’s Who in the grimdark 41st Millennium, why they fight and what happened in the universe…
