Grishatober (Belated) Day 11: Kerch

There is a city and it is alive. 

Ketterdam has always moved at a relentless pace. It claws at its citizens and it always demands more, more, more. It is greedy and it is hungry. It wants to expand and bloat, beyond its borders, into the ports and sea. It demands dominance. It seeks to infect the people with its greed, the world with its relentless drive for more. The rustle of kruge and the exchange of money is prayer, and it sees no faces of its citizens. It cruelly disregards the children, the elderly, the suffering. It discards those who cannot contribute to its hunger and need to grow and consume.

Ketterdam is alive, and it is hungry.

Grishatober Day 4 - Canon Ships

Colm paced back and forth. He knew engagements were a big deal in Novyi Zem. Dowries and bride prices weren't uncommon in Kaelish culture but it was nothing like the Zemenis, who wanted to ensure their daughters futures were well prepared.

He had approached his friend Jammo about his idea the moment Aditi agreed to court him - he knew there was no one else he would ever want to marry. Not with her fine wide features on her face and dark eyes he wanted to fall into.

"This is an exceptional gift even by our standards," Jammo chuckled. He was a light skinned man, mixed Kaelish and Zemeni. "Are you ready to present to her family?"

Colm swallowed, his mouth full of cotton. "I have never been surer of anything." He unfolded and looked at the deed in his hand. A proof of purchase of Jammo's jurda farm on the eastern shores of Novyi Zem. The only blank spot was the signature of ownership. He has painstakingly printed her name below, waiting for her flourish.
