So I've been doing a lot of research on mental toughness lately. It's something that is important for my every day job when i'm training, on the boats, or speaking with recruits. Every day I come into contact with many differing levels of mental toughness from the recruits especially. Watching them go through their training really opens up a whole new perspective on what mental toughness for every day life really means.
Whether you're in the military, non civilian job, or just a civilian trying to better your life mental toughness can really affect your performance and success. It is a learned skill for most of us, innate in a few. Here is the four pillars of mental toughness you need to know in order to start practicing it yourself:
1. Goal setting (small and large goals)
2. Visualization or seeing yourself reaching those goals
3. Stress control. Controlling your bodies stress and learning to relax and keep calm.
4. Self talk. Positively talking yourself through each scenario.
Again, these principles apply to many different lifestyles and goals. I hope you're able to implement them into your own training programs and that you see positive results:)
