I'M BINGING ADVENTURE TIME AND I'M ON SEASON 7 NOW SO LIKE. SPOILERS FOR THESE TWO TIDBITS OF THOUGHT-

Okay so y'know in that scene right before Betty pulls herself through the time portal, leaving past Simon? Past Simon calls out for her, and uses the name 'Princess' once. Now I don't know if this could be cannon, or if anyone has thought about it, but what if the reason Ice King kidnapped princesses was because a small part of him still remembed his lover. Not Her name, but the petname he used, princess. And since all the princesses of that god forsaken post-apocalyptic world go by 'kingdom' princess, maybe the small bit of Simon left in Ice King was just looking for Betty, his Princess.

Also, ever realised how all the Penguins have 'G' starting names? Sure, Gunther because of Green Boi of the Past Not Penguin, but what reasons for all of them to have G names? Sure, it could be to match Gunther, but you know what other name starts with a G? Grof. As in Betty Grof. So maybe Ice King remembered a tidbit of a name, he didn't know what it was, just that it started with G. So he goes to his penguins, and gives them every G name he can think of as a game. But in the end he feels like he failed to find a good G name, but he, being crazy Ice King, brushes this off as it's done and over with now. The bit of him feeling like he failed, that was a little bit of Simon trying to break free, trying to remember Grof, Betty Grof, his wife. But he couldn't, and his feeling of failure was so strong it made the ice King feel it. This one is probably not cannon, but I'll take it as my personal hc.
