Talk about the Groke and Too Ticky! What about it do you like, and why? Have you ever made and content for it?
hooo I always feel SILLY and SHY talking about ships in public but I’ll try
I first started getting into it while thinking about scenarios where Too-ticky might save the day by pacifying the Groke with a lit candle, leading her away from a possible conflict. I’d also think about Groke sneaking up upon Too-ticky while she’s walking through the darkness with a candle, but when Too-ticky loses her footing and the Groke reaches for the candle, instead of freezing her, the Groke carefully tiptoes over her, takes the candle, and leaves her alone. Like so:
And I kept dwelling about those sorts of thing, and the idea of the ship started to grow on me. I love the potential tension and angst, and the two of them are my favorite female characters in the franchise. The size difference is a physical aspect I like (like, Groke is even TALLER in winter, too), and winter and coldness are themes I like in general.
It’s something that would be considered bewildering and forbidden even in the accepting world of Moomins. Like, that’s the Groke! Depression incarnate! The so-called “unspeakable horror”! The one whose name is so hated that it’s a curse word! To fuss over her is to bring death to your doorstep and loved ones! One does not simply romance all of that!Too-ticky adores the winter in all its shades, both happy and sad, and she likes it best when things are uncertain. And what’s more wintry and uncertain than the Groke? She’s the most enigmatic creature in Moominvalley, and possibly the whole world.
So I often imagine their relationship as being something distant but also very tense, like two magnets that can’t touch, as Too-ticky becomes progressively interested in and curious about the Groke. It’s never something Too-ticky can tell others about, and she might not even have spoken to the Groke about it since the Groke so rarely speaks. It’s something sad and weird they have going on, but they keep finding themselves drawn to each other when crossing paths. Too-ticky isn’t certain what exactly her relationship with the groke is, but that’s what’s so captivating about it.I do like me some “are they or aren’t they?”, and uncertainty over whether or not they can end up together at all (and it doesn’t even have to end!). Characters having to come up with unusual ways to express love and intimacy due to unusual barriers like the ones they would experience is something I like very much. There’s a lot of imagery one could use for them, and I love imagery and symbolism! I enjoy it when things can have a chance to be vague, or even dreamlike.
And I HAVE made some art of them! Here’s some links to what I’ve posted: (x), (x). I’ve drawn lots more than those but I haven’t posted them publicly… it’s mostly pencil sketches. As far as I’ve found I’m one of only like three people in the world who’s made fanart of groketicky.
♫ GROKETICKY!!!!!
AFI - Endlessly, She Said
Send me a ♫ + a character’s name and I will respond with a song that reminds me of them. Send a ♫ + a ship and I will do the same.
