I just want grooveshark back
When I was a freshman I used to use this website called grooveshark. It was sort of like spotify but free. You could save your own Playlists and play full songs and I would have that playing through my headphones while I worked on the class project. Well.
One day I opened the browser and went to grooveshark and instead of being greeted with the home page, I was greeted with an apology. "The way the music exists on this website is not covered under fair use and therefore we have to shut the whole operation down. We're sorry!"
I was really devastated because there wasn't, as far as I knew, another legitimate way to listen to music without ads unless you subscribed to spotify premium or whatever Pandora's version of premium is. Youtube red/premium didnt even exist yet. So I basically gave up for awhile and used other methods that did have advertisement inbetween the songs. But I dealt with it. I never thought about grooveshark again.
That is until like, a year ago, when I found out the guy who started up grooveshark was drowning in lawsuits from huge media corporations that hated him for cutting into their third yacht fund and at the age of 28 with no underlying health conditions just. Mysteriously died in his bed. 28 years old. Foul play and su*c*de were ruled out but they never found an official cause.
These people are not playing around they will take your life if you take their profit. They made a whole generation of teens forget this man existed.
I just want my Grooveshark playlists back :’<
Somewhere out there, there must be a former employee with access to the data? They have the power to make so many people so happy.
NEW YORK—Proudly declaring that they never thought they’d see the day their vision would finally be realized, streaming service Spotify repo
I actually went and checked my Spotify top 100 list, but the thing is I use Spotify so little it doesn't actually reflect what I listen to the most. The majority of my music goes through my phone, and mobile Spotify is the worst, especially for people who insist on looping certain specific songs for a couple hours. All that's through itunes or youtube.
Besides, all this talk of Spotify reminds me of Grooveshark, my first love who was executed for crimes it absolutely did commit and were part of what made it so user friendly. (Copyright infringement ftw.) The first cut goes deepest and all that.
Always get the physical CD for music if you really don't want to lose it. Or if I want to be able to play it in my car which lacks an ipod jack.
Does anyone else miss grooveshark
