Ground Beetle – a Complete Guide
Ground beetles are common bugs that you will see in your garden, especially at night. They are beneficial insects that will feed on garden pests. The adults are typically generalist predators in the garden. Their larvae can be more specialized in what they eat. Larvae can also eat other beetle eggs.
A group of 3mm Nedyus quadrimaculatus weevils flee from an ambushing 8mm Leistus fulvibarbis ground beetle. I am a UK-based entomologist and know full well the likelihood of a ground beetle predating a weevil is slim BUT this was a self-indulgent piece! Some beetles you can see their personalities, these weevils are peaceful cows and L. fulvibarbis is a voracious predator (of springtails in real life)!
