Rain has been tapping these windows for over a week now. Autumn is here!

This also means less daylight for my windowsill residents, so I thought I’d build an improvised grow light to remedy their shortcomings. I still had ten meters of 5050 RGB LED light strip and white foamboard laying around from one of my projects back at the art academy. The resulting light box turned out quite okay! I understood light-colour does not matter that much, as long as it is full-spectrum and a more natural coloured light looks a lot less like I’m growing something else than houseplants (we’re in The Netherlands here, but still). Although for all I know, this is by far not bright enough.

Please correct me if I’m wrong! There is a lot of confusing information on the internet so I’d love to get some quality, first-hand information from an expert on a simple grow light for house plants. For now, this’ll do.

IKEA GROW LIGHT UPDATE: I think these lights were a very good decision. This siltepecana has been one of the plants I've kept under one of the lights, and over the last month, there has been a noticeable increase in the number of leaves she's putting out and their size. I have 3 of the larger vaxter grow lights on light timers, and I leave them on for 12 hours a day. I keep them on that long because otherwise, my apartment would be really dark, and the grow lights are probably a little further away from the plants than recommended (so I can fit more under each light). This is only a one month update, so we'll have to see how things go in the long run, but so far I feel very optimistic and these lights have been a huge, cost-effective help
