I Don’t Miss the Girl Who…

I don’t miss the girl who let people yell at her like it was normal. Who took shots of vodka before brushing her teeth. Who mistook chaos for connection and jealousy for love and thought it was romantic to feel sick over someone.

I don’t miss the way she swallowed her own voice just to stay likable. She was louder back then — more expressive, more magnetic — but it wasn’t honesty, it was performance.

I don’t miss how small she felt in her own skin. How she’d wrap herself in self-loathing like it was earned. How she’d make herself the problem because it was easier than admitting someone didn’t love her well.

I’m proud of her for surviving. But I’m prouder of me now — for trying to leave all that behind.

Change is good 5/22/20

I've learned this past week that change and growth are painful, but necessary if I'm ever to be happy.

I don't like who I've become along this haggard path.

I like some of who I am and am self loving the best I can, but the depression and the way others see me gets in my head.

All of my negative thoughts try to break me every single day, but I won't let them win.

I can grow.

I can persevere.

I can live and have happiness.

I may not like the way that my growth happens or how much the ache of loneliness and uncertainty grips me, but I cannot give up.

I will never give up on myself.

I will never give up on my son.

I will never let my depression kill me.

I'm more than meets the eye.

I'm a powerful, strong willed, independent woman.

I cannot allow myself to forget these things.

Who will you ever love if you cannot love yourself?

Who will ever properly love you if you don't know what you deserve?

I'm planning on learning so I can know:

Who I am.

What I want.

How to love.

A lot of people going to be mad as all at me, but 90% of y'all ain't ready to come up to the next level wit me... . I'm tired of being at the ledge encouraging y'all all the damn time, coming up with ways you can better yourself and come up on your own, showing love and what not. . To people who so lost within themselves they assume I'm good and don't check for me the way I check for them. . This is a clear disconnect in our friendships and our relationships, one that I will no longer tolerate. . So when you don't hear from me, or see me.
